What was the last GOOD "computer" movie you saw?

What was the last good computer-movie you saw? Wargames? Colossus: The Forbin Project maybe? (I love that one).

I just saw Transcendence earlier tonight and I'm really glad I didn't see it in a threatre. What total garbage.

Warning: Spoilers!

In case you haven't seen it, it's about a woman who helps her computer scientist husband upload his consciousness into a computer just before he dies. Ok, maybe, yeah kinda I could get into this, if it wasn't for so many stupid plot holes and technical goofs.

Do they even have technology consultants in hollywood helping moving makers anymore?

Don't waste your time watching Transcendence. Crap from the first frame.

A few good computer type movies which I like :thumbsup

kane 07-26-2014 02:46 AM

I don't know for sure, but I think Transcendence was based on a book. I read the book several years ago and it starts off strong then it gets to a point where the human in the computer basically has control of the world's nuclear weapons and is holding the world hostage. It has a very anti-climactic ending when he decides not to do anything after his girlfriend talks him out of it.

As for good computer movies. I haven't seen any movies like that recently, but if you like tech TV shows the HBO show Silicon Valley is great and the AMC show Halt and Catch Fire is pretty good.

Relentless 07-26-2014 02:49 AM

Her was pretty good. I always liked Spike Jonez film style and the point the movie makes is an interesting one.

JFK 07-26-2014 08:56 AM

Hackers, was the best, with a young Angelina Jolie :Graucho

mineistaken 07-26-2014 09:05 AM

Transcendence was so bad that I could not even finish it.. Total crap, do not waste time.

Pryda 07-26-2014 09:30 AM

I really liked Transcendence. The plot wasn't perfect, but I thought it was quite plausible, considering the unexpected nature of singularity.

escorpio 07-26-2014 09:31 AM

She's gorgeous and those tits are flawless but i rarely like her movie characters.

This is prolly my favorite role of hers that I've seen.

Antitrust was actually pretty decent.

Make sure you check your dinner for sesame seeds tonight.

This! The best part about that movie is that it used actual true tested hacking/phreaking techniques in the movie. Everything they were saying was 100% legit. That has to be one of the best - Angelina's breast was just the icing on the cake. Even though she looked like a boy in the movie.

Other honorable mention: Tron (the original)

And I agree, Transcendence sucked a bag full of elephant cock. Freddy Got Fingered was a better movie than Transcendence.

That sounds alot like Colossus: The Forbin Project. A scientist builds a super computer that becomes self aware, takes over the nukes and holds mankind hostage. A really, really good movie - and it was made in the 60's too so it has lots of that retro computer hardware that I like.

Wow I forgot about that one... and yes it was pretty good and was fairly accurate for the time. I little flash, but accurate. And yes, Angelina... MMmm...

Never heard of Takedown... I will have to look for that. Saw Antitrust a couple of times. I thought it was good but it was more of a corporate / business movie, and less of a computer-ee movie.

I don't know about "a boy" but she certainly looked like an old-school Klingon or Romulan in Hackers...

:D

Thank you, that's what I meant. The lingo they were using was correct. All of the dumb screen animations were for the layman that couldn't understand the terms, "infecting a cluster" or "eating memory". Computers weren't nearly as popular or available as they are now.

Another great computer movie is "Pirates of Silicon Valley". If you're interested in how Microsoft and Apple started.

pornmasta 07-26-2014 05:46 PM

war games, probably

Yeah, not a bad flick. The camera focussed on the screen copying source code was a little hard to believe. I guess there wouldn't have been any evidence of them whacking his friend if they were just keylogging. :1orglaugh

That was a horrible movie, i'd rather watch transcendence 1000 times than have to sit through Swordfish ever again.

I haven't wasted a single second on the transendencd flick so i have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Rob 07-26-2014 08:12 PM

I have a feeling they're going to have Transcendence on loop at Gitmo for a long time. Hell, I'm sure some prisoners will request water boarding instead.

L-Pink 07-26-2014 08:36 PM

Transcendence started off ok then quickly deteriorated.

And I really got fucked. Watched it in one of the theaters where waiters bring food and drinks so it cost around $100.

And yes, it was the same theatre complex where the guy texting got shot dead. (made my g/f keep her phone in the car, lol)

.

WDF 07-26-2014 09:13 PM

Sneakers and Hackers were good computer movies. For it's day War Games was a technology nerd's dream.

While not totally about computers it did have some computer scenes in it, Real Genius, caught my attention when it was released.

Loving that show.

I just started watching this UK series called Black Mirror, which is awesome sci-fi that's like a Twilight Zone about modern technology like computers, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

bronco67 07-26-2014 09:33 PM

How about The Matrix?

bronco67 07-26-2014 09:38 PM

If they ever make the book The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect into a movie it will be great if done right...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Met...rime_Intellect

The book is fantastic. It's about a computer that becomes so smart it begins to bend the laws of physics, and a few minutes after that its able to make every human immortal and give them every desire they could ever want. Basically the computer becomes god and hundreds of years later some people are so bored they start having games to experience being killed in gruesome ways. It gets even weirder from there.

We Are Legion

Aired on 24 July 2014 on SBS TWO Expires on 7 August 2014, 11:20pm.

http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video.../We-Are-Legion

We Are Legion takes us inside the world of Anonymous, the radical “hacktivist” collective that has redefined civil disobedience for the digital age. The documentary explores the historical roots of early hacktivist groups like Cult of the Dead Cow and Electronic Disturbance Theater and traces how they evolved and coalesced into Anonymous, a full-blown movement with global reach and extraordinary power. Around the world, governments and corporations are taking notice as this loosely organised underground group brings down websites and interrupts commerce. The documentary explores whether this could be the beginning of a new and powerful voice for democratic ideals or just another rogue player craving attention and causing reckless havoc. (From the US) (Documentary) M(S,N,A,L)
