Breaking New: Chicago police: 1 man dead, 1 critical after shooting in downtown high-rise
A shooting inside a downtown Chicago high-rise on Thursday has left one man dead and another in critical condition in the city's bustling financial district, according to police.
Officers were called to the Bank of America building around 9:50 a.m. and found two men on the floor in an office, police spokesman Martin Maloney said.
Police said a 54-year-old victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition, while a 59-year-old man described as the offender was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other details were immediately released, but an officer came out of the building saying the situation was contained around 10:40 a.m. A worker in the building said building security sent an email around 10 a.m. saying there was a security situation in the lobby and asking them to stay at their desks.
The building is two blocks from the Willis Tower, the country's second tallest skyscraper, and a block away from the Chicago Board of Trade building and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
