Minecraft
My kids play that game and I just don't get it. They have every fucking game available on every game system available, but they sit there and play Minecraft for hours and hours on end. Am I missing something because that shit looks like it should have came free with your purchase of a new Commodore 64. Back in 1982.

This has been debated on GFY few months ago. People were talking about nostalgia, but what nostalgia would kids have.
I will try to find that thread. |

Mine are young. 4,5 and 6
They have Minecraft on their tablets, old laptops and they even hound me to play HD modded versions of the game on my desktop. They only "instruction" they've gotten on the game was via YouTube videos. The stuff they've built is pretty nuts, |
It's incredible it's the best selling pc game in history. 16 million copies.

No kidding, my two boys love that game, once they played it on xbox now Pc spend hours on that game. I watched and watched and was thinking the same thing, WHAT am I missing? LOL
|
there are big youtube channels dedicated to minecraft too - it's huge popular and I too don't see the attraction but it's solid.
|
yeah, I don't get it. When my kid isn't playing minecraft, she's watching the YouTube instructional videos!! for hours!!
:Oh crap |
My 8 year old girl builds crazy stuff in that game. Then at school they take turns building ok the same world / level. I think it's good for them. Quite creative stuff.
|
It's like a virtual lego set, apparently it's a pretty deep game as far as resource management goes and the possibilities are endless, if you can get over the blockiness. Kids have good imagination. Substance over style, it's a great idea.

can't get my twins to stop. There's been a study though that the gameplay is quite beneficial to the development of a child's spatial inteligence, so i guess its ok

I assume being a little more narrative then simply watching what they are doing . . . |

"but they sit there and play Minecraft for hours and hours on end" - its a complaint. I have given the answer to. Again, letting kids understand what is ENOUGH is a part of your job. |

Minecraft is great in its simplicity. I'm still trying to get the Oculus to work with it. Virtual reality minecraft may be the death of me. |
online version of lego.. with a purpose?
|
I don't get it either, but for $26.95 one time fee, it keeps my kids entertained for hours. We did setup them on the server to have their own world.

of it's visual presentation, and since this is a parental call whether it's "getting it" or "not getting" it's about your being able to control it as a parent. Tomorrow I'm going with a flow and fuck all day long, I assume I am becoming a new Ron Jeremy. |

It's not like occasionally, at times, but every evening he is back from his computer job. He defo needs more sun. I can't say if it's good or bad but I refuse to believe falling into that too deep would matter today or tomorrow. |

Your kids could be doing much worse things. At least this game is about creativity, and not full of violence.
Try playing it yourself, you may like it. Your kids would probably think you're cool as fuck for playing it with them. |

It's a sandbox. Kids like playing in sandbox, many like creating something much more than playing flashy 'Press X to win' kind of games on consoles.

I'm sorry if i hurt someone's feelings about parenting. I had Carmelo contacting me via skype even to sorta make me miserable about giving advice of cutting the shit to a user named cb1015cb apparently being a CEO of a huge company that would hire me in a blink of an eye ( as he said ) . . .
Come the fuck on, it's gfy. |

99% are here because we played with computers and video games. video game geeks now rule most the free world and helped design the keyboard you use to be a warrior. the next generation of geeks will be fucking amazing. |

So all the Minecraft players suddenly became a new world domination power, and World Of Warcraft fans, too? Cutting the shit means being a parent - know where the line is. I dont mean teen agers but here we have pre-school kids being on a $26/one time fee full time entertainment spree. I'm thinking about buying a telescope for my kids, get them involved into creating and programming lego robots so they could understand the connection between virtual and real world. That is my opinion of course. |
