BREAKING: U.S. recently attempted unsuccessful mission to rescue American hostages held by ISIS, U.S

they gave it try better than nothing :2 cents:

The Pentagon attempted a rescue operation to free James Foley and other U.S. hostages held in Syria by Islamist militants, but the mission failed because the hostages weren't where U.S. planners thought they were, U.S. officials said Wednesday.

A Pentagon spokesman gave few details but said the operation involved air and ground components and was focused on a "particular captor network" within the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS. The news comes a day after ISIS released a gruesome video documenting the beheading of U.S. journalist James Foley.

Lisa Monaco, President Barack Obama's assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, said in a statement that Obama authorized the mission because the U.S. "had what we believed was sufficient intelligence."

"It was the national security team's assessment that these hostages were in danger with each passing day in [ISIS] custody," she said. While the effort failed, Obama "could not be prouder of the U.S. forces who carried out this mission and the dedicated intelligence and diplomatic professionals who supported their efforts," Monaco said.

No surprise at all.

When the President says "No boots on the ground" what he really means is "Special Forces has been in place for the past two weeks". (Seriously.)

Islamist militants seems to be speaking good with British accents

Special forces are very specific in their activity and do not fit into "troops on the ground".
They can be on any ground at any time.

:2 cents:

We know the SAS are there as well - They don't seem to count though - That's not a complaint BTW...

I tend to agree.

I feel bad for Foley's friends and family - but he knew the inherent risks.

I respect and admire his bravery, though.

He was kidnapped from Turkey. He wasn't in Syria or Iraq until they kidnapped him and took him there.

I guess its time to start the war against ISIS and the places that help hiding them :2 cents:

Some Special Ops teams are not directly affiliated with or acknowledged by the U.S.D.O.D.

These teams are deployed quickly without the knowledge of most of our central government.

It has been this way for many decades.

"No Boots on the Ground." means we have no "official" military presence, like Dick Nixon's "We have "No" troops in Cambodia and Laos at this time.".
