You have to think about who has the real power in that relationship. The one with millions of viewers for your pop garbage music act. The NFL would have to be stupid to pay the halftime act, because if they hired an unknown garage band to perform it wouldn't change the attendance or TV viewership of the Superbowl.

It's the same thing as tubes man. Someone is going to want the upside enough to do it.

There are 1000s of people that are talented enough to do a Super Bowl halftime show.

Free is the new pay in economics. If Rihanna doesn't want to pay to perform at the Super Bowl, which is the most watched event around the world, numbers wise, then one of her competition will do it to one up her.

It's just how it is.
