Man charged in Texas police chief's slaying

weird ass story chiefs are allowed to do traffic stops??

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) ? A 24-year-old Texas man has been charged in the shooting death of a small-town police chief, a sheriff's spokeswoman said Sunday.

Joshua Manuel Lopez faces a charge of capital murder of a police officer in the killing of Elmendorf Police Chief Michael Pimentel, said Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rosanne Hughes.

Pimentel was shot in the shoulder and abdomen while making a stop Saturday to serve an active misdemeanor warrant for graffiti. He was flown to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators are looking into Lopez's background, Hughes said.

Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau said Saturday that Lopez had "some kind of history" with the Elmendorf Police Department but she didn't know its nature.

"We're still investigating the circumstances to determine what was the individual's state of mind, what else was going on," she said. "Those kinds of things certainly will come out in our investigation."

Lopez, who was charged Saturday night, remained in the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on a $1 million bond Sunday. Information about whether he has an attorney was unavailable, and attempts to reach relatives were unsuccessful.

Useless? It's awesome! It just needs to be used more often, and with less time between sentencing and execution.

I'm sure in a small town the chief dose a little of everything.

May not be a deterrent to others but one thing is sure he won't kill again. So from where I'm standing its 100% successful.

I would love to see firing squads and hangings brought back. This shit with poison intravenously is too kind.

The fact that things like prisons and the death penalty exists, has damn sure deterred me from doing a lot of things.

just read 2 more stories about people being released from death row and paid 10 million or so cause they were innocent and evidence back then was fabricated or ignored or whatever

once you can guarantee me that this won't ever happen again, i'll consider death penalty :2 cents:

Certainly there are cases such as those but there are many, many cases where theres zero doubt.

Jeffrey Dahmer
Charles Manson
Nidal Hasan
Ted Bundy

I could go on but whats the point?
Is there any doubt theses guys did what they were accused of? NO

There is an appeals process and in the case where theres no doubt of their guilt they should executed not spend life in prison.

How so? Do you somehow know what would happen in Texas of parallel universe without death penalty? It sounds like you are sure crime would be down or the same. How can you know that?
