Portuguese subdomain, PT or BR?
 

Hello guys,

We have this site we're about to create its Portuguese version. We can't decide whether to use br.mydomain.com or pt.mydomain.com as subdomain.

99% of our Portuguese traffic comes from Brazil, that leads me to choose the br option but since the official language is from Portugal I might be making a mistake.

Which one would you choose and why? :)

Br. As you arget not language but country. Or create both. Just as google has google.com for US, google.ca for CA, google AU for AU and google.co.uk for UK.

Thanks for the answer, actually we're not targeting country but language. However, fact remains that almost all pt traffic comes from Brazil.

Still undecided, any other thoughts?

Well, based what Google says, you are targeting country when you choose some country's domain. So, choose the Brazil if it's more important to you.

Or if you really want to target language, get top level domain and don't define any country in google webmaster tools. Of course the content must be in Portugese, pretty much in both options.
