Holocaust Pyjamas For Sale

Zara apologises for striped 'Holocaust' pyjamas with yellow star

Zara high street fashion shops have been forced to withdraw striped "Holocaust" children's pyjamas complete with a yellow star after Jewish protests

" The long sleeved pyjama top for toddlers has been described by the Israeli press having a "fresh-from-the-concentration-camp look" with a strong resemblance to the uniforms worn by the inmates of Nazi death camps.

Following a storm on social media such as Twitter, Zara has withdrawn the clothing, manufactured in Turkey, while insisting that the yellow star was supposed to resemble the golden badge of an American sheriff.

"We honestly apologise, it was inspired by the sheriff's stars from the Classic Western films and is no longer in our stores," the store said this morning.

"Nevertheless, we can understand the sensitive context and connotation that was created. We sincerely apologise if, as a result, we have offended the feelings of our customers."

Dimi Reider, an Israeli journalist and Associate Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) blogged: "A striped pyjama with a yellow star for your child. It's a SHERIFF shirt for your three year olds. Obviously. What else could it be?".

I find it sad that the symbol ONLY holds those ideas now. That symbol is Much older than Germany's use of it.

Black/ blue and white striped clothes are heavily associated with prisoners, so if it's sheriff's shirt, it is quite fucked up shirt for that purpose.

Perhaps it was to reflect the corruption of law enforcement?

But I agree it's pretty fucked up.

Agreed. In Korea if you visit the old Buddhist castles, they have the swastika painted really large on the main entrance and exit. I remember seeing them as a kid and thinking that Korea had in some way helped the Nazis during WWII. My dad ensured me that Korea did not help the Nazis and the symbol was much older than the Nazis. They simply adopted it and pretty much destroyed it for everyone else. I forgot what he told me the symbol meant, but it's everywhere in Korea, and has been for thousands of years.

The Buddhist symbol is the opposite way.
