LG has just made this possible, compatibility of this device will take a few years at best. Live demo yesterday still has my mind wondering of all the applications this can be implemented?

It seems like it would be expensive, and upgrading it later (for faster charging, different batteries etc) would be expensive too, no?

I bought this for $39.95 to charge my mouse:

and then there are these:

Who would bother? Counters are good for 10-20 years and there is no way this tech is going be the same or close to this in 3 years. Get a docking station and you just set your phone on it. 10 seconds to install.

I come here for relaxation, I do some work for a major competitor in countertops, stop reminding me of work. :1orglaugh

It’s a good idea for restaurants and coffee shops to get people in along with their web service. I think I actually saw a show about these once and they were using it in a table application. Here's a video

It is cool idea and how many other ideas will spring off of it .

There appears to be a little metal spot on the counter where you must physically place the phone. Therefore it's stupid. I thought you could just like toss the phone on the counter and it would charge. It is just a user friendly charger, not some awesome new technology.

Why do you need to charge your mouse... I have a M$ mouse and wireless keyboard and I can't remember the last time I had to swap out the batteries on either.

Well, that is the thing with this device, it is hidden under the surface of the counter. separated by a 1/4" of material making it invisible. Yes the device needs to be in the contact area, not physically touching it. And yes, it is the first of its kind.
