Live Streaming: Wowza vs NGINX vs FMS
What would you guys advice and why exactly?
NGINX ftw
It depends on what you are trying to achieve and by the way FMS now is called AMS ( Adobe media server)
NGINX is good and free if you plan it for a tube site AMS or wowza are the perfect solutions for paysites that offer streaming only |
Nginx - Because even I can get it to work...
nginx wins... flawless victory... fatality
nginx - free, gets the job done, does that very well, easy to use, well optimized...
flussonic
1. flussonic (erlyvideo)
2. nginx 3. AMS in case RTMFP needed then AMS only |
Depends really on how you want to stream the content (HTTP/RTMP/HLS/HDS/HSS/etc). If it's "normal" HTTP/RTMP then I vote for nginx because it's simple, does a great job, and has fantastic support. Simply by installing the nginx-rtmp-module, edit a few lines in nginx.conf to include RTMP and you're basically good to go, for free. :)

If you don't want HLS and adaptive streaming, definitely Nginx. But If you want to have adaptive streaming, Wowza is my choice.
Lighttpd because with the throttled connection you get almost the same bandwidth savings as wowza at a lower cost to disk io, and in my experience it has less problems then nginx (i've seen nginx choke on specific mp4 files in the past)
but it all depends on what you are trying to do... |
