My website designer is flaking out - What steps should I take?
If you thought the designer of your soon-to-be-launched website is going to flake out and maybe sabotage you, what steps would you take? I don't design websites, so I don't know anything about backing up the work or making copies, but what I'm looking to do at tomorrow's meeting is ask for a copy of all of the work, so that going to another designer would be an option to complete the site.
What do I ask for? |
I know a few good people.
tube, wordpress ? You should make sure they have fb or skype IF there in Asian Philippines or India, sometimes power goes out, happens to me when I am there and people that help me with my sites |

sacrifice a chicken.
Then withhold payment until the project is complete. |
Stop using Fiverr in the first place :)

Anyway, I know tomorrow's meeting will get ugly, so I just want a copy of the work and then I'll give it to someone on Fiverr like I should have from the beginning! |

I'd still stay away from Fiverr. But Elance might work. |
In all fairness it is a complicated website. It's a pizza delivery website, so not only did the website have to be designed - it needs to integrate with both a payment processor and our POS. When a person places an order, they pay online with a card and then the order gets physically printed out in the kitchen.
The problem I'm having with the designer is we brought her on as not only the designer, but as the "GC" - she would be responsible for coordinating with the POS people and the credit card processor. But now she doesn't want to do that - says it's too hard, everyone is difficult to deal with, it's everyone else's fault, all her work is done, etc. But what we agreed to pay her was not only for design, but to pull everything all together. Also, in all fairness I can be a loud, sarcastic intimidating fucker when I'm paying someone to do something and it's not getting done. So now she hates me, which is fine as long as the work gets done. But it's not. What I want to do at tomorrow's meeting is initiate getting a backup of all work done to date. What if she pulls out and stops work? I have to start from scratch. I've already paid half and I've seen the site online but I don't have access to it - she holds all the cards. So I want to figure a way to ask for a backup of everything and then decide if I go with someone else or just tell her to fuck off - I'll coordinate the rest from here on out which is what I'm doing anyway. I don't like paying someone and then doing the work myself - I'm funny that way. Is Malaysia a third world country? I don't know? Cambodia definitely is, but KL is pretty nice. They also have this thing called Malaysia Vision 2020, that they will be a fully developed country in 6 years - that's their big goal. So I guess they're a country in transition. |

What you need to get from her depends on how she was designing the site.
If she was designing and putting together the site on your server or host, then most everything you need would be on that server. Then make sure you get the username and password. If she was designing the website on a temporary or localhost, then you would need to get all files. These would most likely be PHP, javascript and graphic files. Have her put all the files for the site and any design files (like photoshop file) on a flash drive for you. |

Withhold all $$$ until you have a copy of work done to this point, for sure. |

I use Fiverr for simple stuff like PowerPoint slides when I don't have time to do it myself and it's a simple template, stuff like that - and with good results so far. |
got good help from fiverr, many people use fiverr to show there work and build client base and move on
