O2 and Stupid Fucking Adult Content Lock

Just got my new phone on O2 and browsed to gfy.com to finf the site blocked.

The options for unblocking are to verify using a credit card or calling a premium number and providing my credit card details.
Thanks O2, I don't use a credit card. Only Debit..

The third option is to look like a cunt and go into one of your stores telling them I want to let them know I am 40 so I can watch extreme pornography and browse adult webmaster forums.

I had this today lol...

Ring 202 from your handset, select 2 (for calling about this phone) then any old number (I found out because I pressed 3 accidentally, and the bloke did it, so go for 3)

Told him I wanted restrictions for porn lifted, he asked if I had a cc, I said no, he said no worries I'll do it manually.

3 mins later tells me up to 24 hours, 30 mins later get the text it's all done, re-boot phone, job done :thumbsup

I've only ever used a debit card and never had an issue with buying anything. Aren't they exactly the same thing from the merchant perspective?

I got an idea. Purchase a domain with some shirty
Hosting and iframe gfy.com and whatever hardcore porn you want to view.

It should unblock it if they ony ban domains and not server IPs

If the debit card is VISA or MasterCard branded -- yes the cards would process the same basically.

if you have wifi on your phone, you should be ok if you surf via wifi.

I got poo-pooed when I raised my objections to the schema of opt-out porn filters but as you can see they are bad for the adult entertainment business.

How many potential customers do not want the scrutiny of others finding out about their porn surfing habits? A lot of our revenue producing members are otherwise "responsible" members of their communities. These members do not want to be identified as "pervert wankers".

All UK operators self-regulate to block adult sites.

Kids can get debit cards so...

I'm not saying I'm for opt out porn filters cause I'm really not but it has one positive. Who do you want surfing you porn sites? Do you want horny 16 year old boys or do you want 18+ year olds that had to prove they were older than 18 and that they had a CC..

Pity I can't get the phone company to do a c sale everything someone verifies with cc.

because it is new UK law, very interesting what their government does....

Casio22 09-12-2014 02:28 AM

I had the exact same problem, ended up going into the store as a i only use debit cards. Entire shop looks at me like i'm Jimmy Saville when i ask to have the limitations lifted.

At least i can wank in the park now without using tear stained polaroids of ex girlfriends.

I think its because debit cards are given to under 18s

Barry-xlovecam 09-13-2014 11:53 AM

You can add a minor's name to you credit card account -- like a child away at boarding school or when travelling. Under US Federal court rulings: credit cards and debit cards are not proof of age (period).

http://www2.ca3.uscourts.gov/opinarch/072539p.pdf

Maybe, the banking administrative laws and rules in the UK do not allow minors to be added to their parents' credit cards? So, Junior just pinched Daddy's wallet and uses his credit card to view porn websites. Hopefully, he doesn't make a purchase with Daddy's credit card and you end up with a chargeback :upsidedow

Adult webmasters are so out of touch with the public's reaction to their being caught watching porn. People get fired from jobs and have negative job references from these events. If your wife catches you watching porn beating off -- the shit may hit the fans. The kids finding out ... the wife leaving with them ... It's not a normal family behavior to watch porn together. We may be exposed to porn all of the time as it is our livelihood but we are the exception. I try not to forget this when dealing with customers or the general public.

Most of them do it because back in the day when they had mobile portals they used to sell porn themselves to consumers. So it was just a way to increase sales.

TBH, it makes me wonder what the UK is doing with all the porn filtering. We purchased a new sony phone for our son's 16th birthday 2 years ago. Being 16, we placed the contract in Gary's name. 3 months later, a bill for £60 came through. It was an adult phone line.
We both spoke to our son & told him this was in appropriate. In the meantime, we added bars to stop this happening, also contacting the companies, I think ofcom was one & the actual text number services. They actually refunded the money, after we explained the situation & told them he was only 16. Also understanding the contract was in the name of a person above 16.
The point to this story, the o2 shop assistant should have asked if we wanted to place bars knowing it was our sons birthday present. But was more interested in adding extras to the billing, more commission huh.
I believe restrictions should only be placed on under 18 contracts or when we ask for them, and not when purchasing automatically, although it is easy to have them lifted & restricted.
