Ray Donovan = GT5

Watching Ray Donovan is like playing GTA5. The eccentric characters and even some of the crazy jobs he has to do are so similar to the missions in GTA5.

Anyone else notice this?

I watched the first episode. Did the over the top fake Boston and Israeli accents ever get better?

J. Falcon 09-23-2014 06:52 PM

Oops, meant to put GTA5 in the title (obviously).

Not really. The show is pretty good, but I find the new season inferior to the first. The first is very good. The second has a lot of wacky stories which I find hard to believe at times.

I started out liking the show and thought the first episode or two were interesting, but it then just devolved into a show about a bunch of shitty people doing shitty things to each other. I didn't give a damn about any of them so I had to bail on it.

They are not over the top... thats exactly what Israelis sound like.

That's exactly what it's about.

I agree, the first season was absolutely awesome, second is getting a bit out of control and not following in his character at all.

He isn't following through and letting too much shit slip through the cracks now. First season he knocked things on the head straight away.

I'm not opposed to a show like that. I loved the Sopranos, but here it just wasn't as compelling to me and I couldn't get into it.

AmeliaG 09-23-2014 08:15 PM

I totally agree. Loved the first season. Feel committed to this one, but I think I'm done after it.

Kane, check out True Detective if you haven't already, that was superb IMO!

That was a fantastic show! I can't wait for Season 2. I read today that they have confirmed that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will be in Season 2. Farrell is a great choice, I guess and I actually think Vaughn is an inspired choice who might shock some people.

John Voight's character is the only character I like.
I don't like Ray, don't like Ray's wife, definitely don't like their kids, don't like either of his brothers.

I stumbled across it on a plane the other week and could not wait to watch every episode (in one night :1orglaugh)

I saw that with re to Farrell and Vaughn, not sure about those two, however the producers of the show seem to know what they were doing as like you said, the show was fantastic! :thumbsup

I think Woody Harrelson doesn't get enough credit for his acting abilities, he is brilliant, along with matthew mcconaughey who is/was also brilliant.

I agree. Woody doesn't get enough credit. McConaughey has been on a roll the last few years. He is amazing in Dallas Buyer's Club.

Hopefully Farrell and Vaughn can pull it off. I have always thought there is a dark side to Vince Vaughn that we don't normally get to see that he might be able to use in this show.
