Anyone doing anything with .Rocks domains?

Curious if anyone here is doing anything with .Rocks domains, or has any thoughts about them...

Matt 26z 09-29-2014 06:04 PM

How many here are hearing about .rocks for the first time because of this thread?

BlackCrayon 09-29-2014 06:08 PM

just another one of 1000's of these new tlds they are pumping out which are more or less doomed to fail. what would you do with it? just about anything decent is "reserved".

I picked up a couple that made sense mostly for marketing/campaigning & alternative promotion of some of my established .com sites.

I also picked up a couple that just made interesting sense based on the extension.

I think many of these new extensions have potential depending on what kind of site you are planning on building on it.

I see a few extensions with possible potential but agreed most suck ass. I'm pretty invested into .Com so haven't purchased any of the new ones. :2 cents:

You said it the right way ... It's dumb as a bag of doorknobs :OD

popyour.rocks :)

InfoGuy 09-30-2014 03:52 AM

Whoever registers .rocks thinking that it has a viable future has rocks in their head. All of these new TLDs are shit and a waste of money. Only buy .com or a targeted ccTLD if you're serious about your business.

ballslike.rocks

SomeCreep 09-30-2014 04:06 AM

Nothing wrong with branding an alternate TLD ----AS LONG AS YOU OWN THE .COM!:2 cents:

Klen 09-30-2014 05:05 AM

I am only interested in registering porn.someTLD but it seems they all have it registered already, except those with double TLD(like co.uk) which i dont consider to be real extension.

that would be true if there were only a handful of them going around, now the market is so ridiculously saturated it's pretty much made any new tld worthless to anyone.

jimmycastor 09-30-2014 07:15 AM

not true, i managed some no1 positions with new tlds
first of all some older classic keyword coms are burned or seo punished,
or not updated

if u update fast and have a decent strategy with some luck you can move up with alternative tlds fast, not any keyword does , but some do

InfoGuy 09-30-2014 02:34 PM

Putting aside any potentially miniscule SERP advantages with having a keyword domain with a new alt tld, the more important factor is how much credibility your site conveys to a potential customer. Ranking #1 means nothing if the potential customer doesn't trust your site enough to pull out their credit card.

I think these will just be memorable and somewhat easy to brand.

edit: If google ranks anything #1 for an extended period; people will trust it and share it.

So many tough decisions in life. Should I buy cock.pink or cock.blue. :upsidedow

Agree, the branding & marketing options widen with strategically & carefully branded concepts around many of these new extensions.

I dont know about .pink or .blue in regards to cock, but you might just have an interesting concept site behind cock.reviews :1orglaugh

TheSquealer 09-30-2014 05:27 PM

Yes!!!

I am actively not registering .rocks domains because I'm not a fucking loopy retard.

Hope that helps

One I thought was pretty good was punk.rocks, it was available a couple of days ago at premium of $999 but has since been picked up.

Another I thought could be a fun project was thisshit.rocks, but it was also gone.

420 09-30-2014 05:47 PM

I was saving this for CurrentlySober; but what the hell. If you hurry you can get it for $15. I bet you could talk him into paying at least a few hundred for it when he's drunk.

cs probably bought thisshit.rocks instead

mineistaken 09-30-2014 06:51 PM

Why out of many useless new extensions you made a thread specifically for .rocks?

(+1 for first time hearing by the way)

Because this particular one struck me as better than useless in some cases, especially from a marketing standpoint and I was curious as to what others here might think as well.

Not necessarily true. They only have to trust your site enough to use it and keep coming back for more, not necessarily provide you their card or credentials. If you can reach an automated threshold of interested traffic you can do wonders with advertising revenue.
