Conservatives once again try to dumb down America's students.
 

This is likely not a very nationally publicized event but is shows how the Right Wing conservatives keep trying to dumb down our nations schools. In Texas they have been rather successful by white washing the history books and now they were recently trying to do the same in Colorado.

The Republican National Committee wasn't happy with a new History course being taught in CO, schools for advanced students, so they went to war and managed to secure a 3-2 conservative majority on the school board of Jefferson County whom then went on to approve a new resolution to whitewash the history class course.

They attempted to push a pro American agenda pushing a new agenda "promote citizenship, patriotism, essentials and benefits of the free enterprise system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights.” While downplaying civil disobedience and trying to turn students into good little followers.

The students and teachers decided not to be good little brainwashed worker bees and instead organized large scale call outs, sick outs and walk outs. They did this to the point schools actually had to shut down.

In the end, the school board caved due to pressure from the students, teachers and parents forcing the concertive school board majority to due away with their whitewashed history lessons..

Seems these ignorant right wingers seem to have forgotten this country and many of it's greatest achievements came by civil disobedience. Such as this very case..

This story didn't get a lot of national coverage, but it's important for all Americans to see the type of shit the Republican Party is trying to pull at the local levels across this country.

This seems to be an article about nothing.

It's not white washing; It's grown ups acting like children debating things they aren't qualified to debate which is why they went into politics in the first place.

Teach whatever you want in school. About 90% of it is worthless anyhow. Then when kids grow up to be adults, they can discover the truth by themselves. I was taught in school that the US won WWII. Imagine my surprise.

It's a negative if you agree that it's ok to rewrite history to fit your political agenda. However this is a story of students and teachers working together by using the very thing the school board was trying to whitewash.. That being civil disobedience and standing up for what is right not what someone in charge tells you to accept.

The "promote citizenship" part is what some parents, students and teachers had a problem with. That area of Colorado has become a magnet for illegal Mexicans.

Jefferson country is one of the Whitest areas in Denver with 79% white and only 14% Hispanic. 0.9% black...

If it wasn't for the russians, the war could of ended very differently. We lost 300,000 fighting, the russians lost over 10 million. What they didn't have in technology they made up in sheer numbers.

The Russians did not lose "10 million" soldiers and their Army would not even have fared as well as they did...without the "lend lease" of supplies provided by the U.S. Neither would have Britain.

The Allies...which included the U.S...won the war against the Axis...end of story.

First that quote doesnt work when we were fighting on the same side as the Russians. My point was if it wasnt for Russia, there is a good chance we would of lost world war 2. Thankfully Hitler made the same mistake as Napoleon and tried to evade Russia.

There is no balanced history, it is what is it. May not be pretty but its the history not a story to change at will.

Yes it is. "History" is about framing. How do you want to frame the story of your past? This whole argument is exact proof that history is framing. By leaving in some details and omitting others, you are effectively changing "history."

where did i say history is balanced? because I didn't. I said try and keep it balanced and that's exactly what they did.

Moreover, history is not what it is. That's an entirely erroneous statement. it's not 2+2 = 4 like math. it never was and never will be. It's completely open to interpretation and gets re-written at least once every generation.

No they did not. You originally said the Russians lost 10 million...the chart says the Soviet Union lost 10 million not the Russians. So get your story straight.

Russians were the soviet union now its Russia again. My story is fine, you seem to have problem with the truth that millions of Russians died in battle.

If it was not for the U.S. supplying the Soviet Union there is a good chance the Soviets may not have been able to repel the Germans...and in fact did not repel them entirely until after the the invasion of France by the U.S.

Russia was just a part of the Soviet Union. I have known for most of my life that the Soviets...which included Russia...suffered more deaths during WWII...military and civilian...than any other country and I do not have a problem with that. You seem to have a problem with your statements.

Not to mention everyone seems to believe that the war for the US started and ended in Europe. The US was actually in Africa with the Brits and it was that very African campaign that saved the Russians asses.

Prior to the US and the Brits putting full pressure on Germany's oil resources, Russia was a dead duck. They had zero control over their own skies and it was only a matter of time before Germany over ran all of Russia.

The only thing that saved Russia's ass, was the fact that Hitler pulled almost all of the Luftwaffe out of the Russian campaign and sent them to Africa to fight the Americans and Brits. Hitler took the gamble that he could finish off Russia with out the air cover and that bit of breathing room is what allowed Russia to survive.

Added to this after Germany surrendered, the US went on to fight the Pacific theater and forced Japan into surrendering.

Those that claim the US's help was not a significant cause to winning the war do not know their history.
