Cancer in young soccer goalies linked to artificial turf

This stuff could be the new asbestos. Many high schools and universities have installed it since it costs less to purchase and maintain than natural grass.

The turf is made out of old vehicle tires and tiny flakes of the turf get all over the players. Goalies are especially at risk because they dive into the turf so often.

They should use this stuff, like we do in the motherland :)

Where i live 100% of the young girls play soccer. But it is odd that it is just goalies.

XXXBizXXX 10-08-2014 07:47 PM

Only goalies? weird...

yeah but this stuff in the turf is loose and gets inhaled. I think the stuff on playgrounds is in a solid form right?

Old tires that pick up carcinogens from roads for years. Smart move.

It's just pieces of tires. At times painted. They started using it instead of bark because it was softer and "environmental friendly".. Chalk this up as another fail for the tree huggers.

:1orglaugh

Can't say that I root for the tree-huggers to fail, but fuck ... we were eating comparably better McDonalds fries (taste and health-wise) until people got their shit in a twist about how they were frying it. I mean, shit, not every tree needs to be saved, and not every trans-fat will kill you. There's a happy medium somewhere, right?

Manfap 10-09-2014 12:16 AM

I hate those little black pellets, they get fucking everywhere.

seeandsee 10-09-2014 02:18 AM

'better', true, toxic fries are comparably 'better' than highly toxic fries

Once a year visit to McDonalds, a couple of single vaccines after age 2, one day when you can drink alcohol per month :2 cents:

The bluejays are soon to be the only mlb team left playing on this shit. Would be a perfect excuse to change to real grass! Players hate it too.

MrTrollkien 10-09-2014 06:38 AM

This is crap. I've played on turf for over ten years, football and rugby. Yes, we got rubber pellets everywhere. Nobody got cancer.
I'd be more worried about staph infections than cancer. This cluster of cancer patients has something to do with a very specific location, not turf fields in general.

this. i would think football players dive into these type of fields more than a goalie. and if its from inhaling, wouldn't more than just goalies have it? players spend just as much time on the field as they do. think its a stretch...

and staph was was more common when i played lax. guys would bust up their arms and legs all the time, not do shit for it, a week later be in icu getting an iv

Buff 10-09-2014 07:05 AM

Maybe soccer is a tough sport after all.

BlackCrayon 10-09-2014 07:08 AM

fake grass sucks. it gets hot as shit too. there is no comparison to playing on a field of real grass compared to that crap.
