Converting a porn site...to mainstream

So we've been giving thought to the idea of dismantling KastleArchives.com as an bdsm/fetish site - and converting it entirely over to a mainstream photography site - a showcase for all my non-adult photograph over the past few decades. Landscaping, abandonments, etc.

Now, I know some of the inherent problems - but just want to hear from others who may have done similiar. Was it worth it? Unforeseen problems?

We'd prefer not to simply reg an entirely new name - since both our adult and mainstream falls under the same 'Kastle Archives' branding...same company.

Anyone with suggestions or advice? Experiences with similiar?

Good idea...or bad?

I wouldn't do it.

Mixing adult with non-adult is always an issue. Even if you don't want to turn a profit with the new site and do it only as a hobby site (you didn't mention it), you may change your mind in the future. You may also change your mind about the past site.

Keep them as two entities and don't link each other. If you kept the website as it is, would you write both urls on a business card?

Your answer to this question will probably tell you what you should do.

You're an amazing photographer, and I have no advice for you, but just wish you the best of luck with monetizing your mainstream work.

you need to redesign the site first, and then some entry page with adult / non adult choices and thats where i will go ... :2 cents: maybe reg .net and redirect and build the mainstream business there ... :2 cents:

Google has already deemed the domain as adult. You will fight an uphill battle to convince them otherwise.

New domain. Definitely.

Not a good move since you already established a brand under adult. Brand transformations are already hard as it is, it's doubly hard to go from adult to mainstream. It's probably a better idea to start from scratch.

I have some sites which are totally non-adult, have never shown any nudity, etc. but which have either linked to adult sites or been linked to by adult sites. Their search traffic is totally horrible, small, and useless now. Because they are not adult sites, porn traffic is pretty useless, but Google won't send anything else. You experience may vary, but that's been mine
