Anyone want $10 for nothing?

Hey, guess what... Red Bull doesn't "give you wings" after all.

The famous energy drink slogan has been found to be false after a US lawsuit and the company has agreed to compensate customers who bought it in America between 2002 and 2014.

Legal papers specify that no proof of purchase is necessary.

Anyone in the US who bought at least one can, in the last 12 years, could be entitled $10 (£6.17) cash or $15 (£9.26) worth of Red Bull goods.

The false ad lawsuit all started in 2013 by a US consumer, Benjamin Careathers, who believed the company's slogan "Red Bull gives you wings" is dishonest.

He argued the slogan clearly doesn't mean the drink will give you wings but it is generally understood the drink should give a higher energy boost than an average cup of coffee.

The compensation payments to customers, expected to cost the company $13m (£8.2m), won't happen for a while though.

The legal process is still pending final court approval of the settlement scheduled to happen in May in 2015.

Those wanting to make a claim have to submit a form before 2 March 2015.

No proof or cash till receipt is needed, just to remember whether the drink was purchased between 1 January 2001 and 3 October 2014.

To receive a $10 cash payment or $15 in Red Bull products, you must submit a claim form or call 877-495-1568 and requesting that it be sent to you by mail.

No proof of purchase is necessary to obtain settlement benefits. There are four ways to submit a filled-out Claim Form:

On this website (filed online by no later than March 2, 2015);
By email to the Class Action Settlement Administrator at [email protected] (by no later than March 2, 2015); or
By fax to the Class Action Settlement Administrator at 844-553-1373 (by no later than March 2, 2015); or
By mail to the Class Action Settlement Administrator at Energy Drink Settlement, c/o GCG, P.O. Box 35123, Seattle, WA 98124-5123 (postmarked no later than March 2, 2015).

The court will hold a hearing on May 1, 2015 to decide whether the settlement will be approved. Payments will be distributed within 150 days after the settlement is agreed upon.

There are reports that Red Bull has agreed to change its advertising but an internet search in the UK still showed the company's old "Gives You Wings" slogan.

No comment from Red Bull in the UK as yet.

Called the number.

The company rep put me on hold. Listened to "Band on the Run" while waiting.

Rep came back on the line and said, "You got Wings...now fuck off."

if too many people make claims, the settlement will be diluted so it can be split evenly.

enjoy your :2 cents::2 cents:

MaDalton 10-09-2014 02:40 PM

they pay that from their petty cash box and laugh about the free advertising

420 10-09-2014 02:44 PM

Redbull didn't give me wings. I should sue them for $15 in coupons.

mineistaken 10-09-2014 02:50 PM

No proof of purchase needed - sounds like fake news. Could they even rule that no proof needed? Does not sound very "legalish".

WDF 10-09-2014 03:13 PM

a hot cup of coffee in the lap gets a million, but not giving you the promised wings is only worth $10 or $15 bucks?

You can only get big bucks if you're "hurt". Wait until 2030 when we find out caffeine causes colon cancer. Then you can get your million but it will only be worth $100 in today's money.

The heir to the Red Bull empire is a Thai guy who ran over a cop, dragging him for a while, and killed him. He fled to Singapore and remains on the run, too rich and powerful to really be prosecuted, so they allow him to keep delaying his return. Been a few years now. He's never coming back. He has wings apparently.

seeandsee 10-10-2014 12:24 AM

Can i get 1 red bull instead now?

Just because a USA court orders it doesn't mean it will happen. If not USA owned paying it would only be good will.

lock 10-10-2014 02:26 AM

RED COW new name gives you udders.

Harmon 10-10-2014 02:40 AM

The settlement is on $13,000,000

That's a fucking drop in the bucket for a company as large as Red Bull.

Also, they couldn't BUY this type of advertising/PR campaign for $13,000,000

Red Bull is the one that in the end will come out on top
