Peregrine falcon massacre in my backyard!

The wife just yelled up to me from downstairs - a peregrine falcon was ripping apart a pigeon in our backyard!

So I flew down the stairs with the Nikon (and Canon) and captured the scene from the back deck - about 70-80 stills and 3mins. of closeup video.

Suh-weet demonstration of the food chain.

It ate half the bird, then flew away with the carcass in its talons. I'm left with pigeon feathers all over the lawn. :1orglaugh

This thread is completely useless..... it should be murdered like the pigeon (unless you post proof)

They are amazing to watch when they hunt

Yeah, they really are. Wish I'd seen the take-down. I'm guessing it was a mid-air strike.

They've been on the endangered list in our area - but they're making a rebound the last few years thanks to conservation efforts. I see them on the remote backroads sometimes on the telephone poles.

I'm too old for Pavlovian reactions.

I might've considered it...had you asked nicely.

OK, huge bird nerd here, MUST see pics

If you hang out for a while in down town Los Angeles on a roof top of a high rise, you can see this all the time. They introduced falcons and other birds to deal with the pigeon population. Loads of fun to see one get taken out!

Here's a cool article about it

Nice shots. :thumbsup

How long do owls generally live? And what made you think of getting one as...what, a pet?
