Libre Office users. Step inside please!

Do you guys know if there's an add-on to Libre Office's word processor that automatically shows how many words you've typed as you're typing A BLOCK OF TEXT? I know it shows you the TOTAL count for the words on the page. Is there an option where you can set up a new block and it only counts the words on that block as you type it?

Thanks

What is block of text? Paragraph? As Libreoffice shows already words and characters count in selection by default.

Yes, if you select a block of text you'll see its stats. What I'm interested in is some sort of automatic counter that just tells you the stats of the materials you're currently working on. The reason for this is because my writers write text in one .doc file with many articles on it and need to know if the current article is at or near the target word count.

I use OpenOffice, which I think is the same thing.

Select a block of text.
Tools - Word Count
It will show the total document count as well as the selected block.
