'Revenge porn' UK = 2 Years Jail
People who post so-called "revenge porn" pictures and videos on the internet could face two years in jail under a new law. The new Criminal Justice and Courts Bill will have an amendment dealing specifically with the practice. "We want those who fall victim to this type of disgusting behaviour to know that we are on their side," said Justice Secretary Chris Grayling. Physical distribution of images will also be covered. "The fact that there are individuals who are cruelly distributing intimate pictures of their former partners without their consent is almost beyond belief," Mr Grayling said. A difficult law to enforce and a shame that these measures only arise once so much damage has been done.
Of course the government has to be seen to respond in a tough macho way. But are we going to educate our kids about their bodies and the complicated relationship they have with the digital world? Are we going to try and do something about this or just electioneer on the issue? |
This is going to do nothing to make people think about the consequences of sending someone pics of themself in the first place as they will now think they definitely won't spread further.
