Technical specifications webcam studio
We are getting organized to set up a webcam studio.
Our aim is to offer HD stream, but I need to know how many cams could we maximum install to maintain a quality signal. In this area the maximum upload speed we can get is 4Mbit/s (it's 4G). We were looking at 3 or 4 cams. What are your thoughts on this? |
Strange question coming from someone setting up a studio...)))
Hire a hard-ware-specialist and experiment > that way you will learn what is possible ! Good Luck ! |
Thanks.
part of the organizing is asking around before hiring specialists. We might consider setting up in an other area with better connection possibilities if this area is not good enough. |

HD streams (720p) require a minimum 700kbs upstream (1080p more) to the website server not your location. |
I would imagine you could do 2-3 cams with that upstream bandwidth... but... How bad/slow is the overall latency/ping time?
4g isn't known to be great. |
Which country/city you want to operate from ?

To stream to one website in HD you will need a min of 1mb/s, some sites claim 700-800kb/s is enough but keep in mind that in real life you need 1mb/s to not have a choppy feed sometimes... In my experience 2 workers on the same cable modem= loss of position and $ and cable is 100x better than 4g... even 2 separate modems but on one cable work poorly... I have had good results with multiple providers for the same studio, for example fiber + cable + Wdsl all different providers and cables... |
Any other tips or suggestions for this guy?

Neilo:
Shop around for service providers who can provide you with a proper, wired connection, with guaranteed throughput and low latency. Relying on 4G will be a mistake. If you can't deliver good quality video consistently you will lose customers, have increased chargebacks, and have to spend more time and money on things like support and complaints from users and models alike. Think of your studio as the very last step in the ladder of your business. Your website, your advertising, your time and money, are all spent to bring your potential customer to your chat models, to this step, which is 1 click away from making a purchase. You should not cheap-out on this part of your business. |
Hey guys,
Thanks for some very useful answers. Location at what we´re at is in Spain, not always the best when it comes to connections. Fiber is slowly rolling out, but still lot to happen. We might start looking into satellite. Totally agree **********, don´t want to cheap-out on the connection Keep us posted! |
