Internet tax in Hungary 0.6 USD after every GB data
Heya,
What a funny country I live in: the gov today officially announced that from 1st Jan 2015 they will tax internet, based on data transfers: 150 HUF [approx 0.6 USD] per GB. http://img.444.hu/tv1.png All hungarian online news are about this at the moment.. The reason: nowadays people much more tend to use skype or viber instead of making classic [gsm] phonecalls.. :pimp Stupid, isn't it? :error :helpme :error :helpme This FB page against the new tax just started today - gets 20-25 likes every second, and we are a small 10m country :P OOOOOH and meanwhile the head of the hungarian IDS got banned from the Unites States along with 5 other unnamed government members. |
I go over 300GIG a month in my country :)
|
OMG!! That would suck if others follow..
|
you guys are quickly moving backwards into stone age - sad
|
that sucks.. they tried that in canada and almost had a full scale revolution on their hands.
i highly recommend something like that for you, before this madness spreads |
that sucks :(
|
Wow! :upsidedow:upsidedow
|
Damn politics....
|
Time to move!
|
that is just too much, pay for net, no tax after
|
There's quite a bit of media hysteria surrounding this ("the sky is falling!"=pageviews), but keep calm, it's expected to be capped at a couple of dollars per month for private users and most likely $20 for businesses.
Not saying it's the right direction at all, just that the media is sensationalizing it as usual. Also, as far as I know the law has yet to be passed and there are signs of opposition (not just civil). |

furthermore, it's a direct attack on how we all feed ourselves. anyone in this business who thinks this is a good idea, needs a good long think about what they want the future to be. tear the government down. seriously. |
you must be black or something because i dont userstand you hu bro :winkwink:
|
$.60/GB is more than transfer has cost in a long time.
That rate is way too high. I could maybe understand $.06/GB but even so, that is high. |
barbarians are at the door
|
i think the main problem is that the current government is turning the country into a fascist dictatorship
|
it's capped at 700HUF/month (?2.3). not a big deal.

Tell your politicians no one does it in the world. unbelievable ... anyways good luck living there. ( I guess we found a good location for filming Borat 2 )
|
I'm surprised the US doesn't have a tax yet since all "utilities" do.
|
I presume ISPs are kicking up a stink, since they'd be the ones who have to bear the cost of compliance.

wow that tax is ridiculous.
looks like your government wants to have revolution among young people....they will either leave or throw down government.... |
I think this is only to get ppl mad, it is only a bone to chew, to take the focus off the fact that the US banned some Hungarian politicians for being so corrupt that it now hurts the interests of the US.

It's funny when I see many people in my country (Croatia) telling that we need a strong leader like Viktor Orban, to unite as and lead us out of recession.

tax data transfer? this would make porn a multi billion $$ industry again since tubes would go down the shitter fast :D
|
Ah, they want double. There is already VAT you pay to your provider i think.
Maybe they must split it to get the people accepting it. Like first: only exta tax on porn (the church will love it). Than move to extra tax on playing online games (parents will love it) and than tax on using dating websites and in the end, tax it all! That is how politicians like to do it. Just like an internet filter for CP, than for all porn, and than for everything the government don't like, or you can only access if you pay extra tax. And in the mean time they watch over your shoulder to look what you are doing online. I hope i don't give them ideas. |

Tax is not bad.
Taxes can be very good. Look at countries with high taxation they are some of the best countries in the World to live in. Of course if like the USA you spend all your tax on foreign wars and let your cities go to shit taxes are wasted. But a tax on internet usage funded into support for home grown movie making, journalism, music making would go a long way to refunding areas destroyed by illegal usage by Google. |
It's not surprising at all that this is happening in Hungary. It's a country run almost entirely by neo-nazi thugs. When your talking points are a bunch of nationalist garbage, restricting information is the most effective way of getting the masses on your side.
