Moniker: anyone else having login problems?

Tried with my normal u/p, and it complains "The username and password combination you entered is incorrect. Please try again."

I remember something about them changing passwords as a security measure so I think, okay, I have no idea what it is, so I'll just use the reset password function. I copy and paste the u/p from the email, and it STILL comes back with exactly the same error.

Tried calling them but apparently it's out of business hours... recorded voice message.

Anyone else having this issue?

kaori 10-21-2014 10:04 PM

Yeah, had the same issue..
In my case, I had multiple subaccounts.. so the password they sent me was for one of the subs..
Scrolled through my email to find the one that they actually listed both the username AND the password in...
crazy security lapse on their part to include all that info in an email..

TrashyGirl 10-21-2014 10:16 PM

recommend you go thru your email incl sp*m to see if you can to find 2 emails you might have missed from Moniker where they reset your passwords. mine were rec'd on Oct 6 and 10 from the sender "system" then when I opened them, they were from Moniker (wtf). most likely when they get back in the office tomorrow and request to reset, they will just resend these emails again, so I hope you still have access to whatever email address they have on file. they are so FUBAR right now :helpme

That's the thing, I figured my password had been changed because of their "scare", so I specifically requested a password reset via the website. I had a new username and password combo sent to me. They don't work.

I think their b.s. system wants you to login w/ the password reset they emailed you in their "we are tightening our security" email. Ironically, while they claim all of this is to safeguard your account, I think it's a huge breach to send this en masse via email (as the other GFY member commented as well). I hope you're able to resolve it by phone today. I need to get my final few domains I have w/ Moniker outta there, it's an ongoing shitshow w/ them.

Security Breaches at Moniker

rowan 10-28-2014 07:19 AM

Turns out my account was actually blocked because apparently my bank was returning a card lost/stolen status when Moniker tried to charge it.

I think it's their system getting confused, because the card I had previously used with Moniker expired about 1 or 2 years ago. I've been using Paypal since. Receive about 3 emails for every automatic renewal complaining that the card charge failed.

Just one of those dumb things that is quick to fix, but I did have to call them at an odd time (1am for me) in order to actually speak to someone.

I hope my account doesn't get blocked again if they try to charge that expired card...

My advice is to move your domains as quickly as possible.

Yes. Renewing some now (one expires today) then moving out.

rowan 10-28-2014 07:43 AM

Access doesn't seem to have been properly restored. Their system wants to charge card "x", and I can't change payment methods. *cry*

Guess I'm calling them again.

Apparently my old account name is now some sort of subaccount that doesn't have full access, and I have to log in with the customer ID.

I can now see the Paypal link, but it only lets me pay 1 invoice. There are 3 outstanding.

I'm going to have to call them AGAIN. What a clusterfuck.

you can pre-load paypal funds into moniker. this is the only way i ever pay them (when i have to, i am transferring all domains out).

You do know that if you transfer out, the expiration date gets extended an extra year, right? Kill two birds with one stone. Just transfer out and your renewal issue is solved. There's no sense putting yourself through all that misery trying to do business with Moniker.

CarlosTheGaucho 10-28-2014 01:41 PM

They actually changed usernames (account ID's) so there was no way to log-in, I wanted to log in today and eventually got the forgotten password email with a new account ID.

Have no domains there anymore, just wanted to log-in and make sure they can't charge my credit card with any non sense charges (as it happened to many recently).

Well I haven't found no option to "remove" the CC details, not surprisingly.

Moved my domains out to NameSilo in July - an uncomparably superior service.

You can also do an immediate payment via Paypal.

The problem in this case was that for some bizarre reason known only to Moniker my existing username/password became a subaccount of the customerid/password. If I log in with the former, I can start an order to renew domains, but cannot actually pay for them.

Understood, but I'm not going to start a transfer on a domain that expires in 0 days. :winkwink:

when they switched the control panel everyone one got new customer ids but they never told anyone..

but yes you can do a transfer at 0 days. i do it all the time, works fine. as long as the transfer is initiated it will still work.

It's not just unauthorized charges from Moniker. The security breaches also mean that criminals potentially have access to confidential account info.

To delete your credit card details, login into the new master account and change the default payment method from credit card to wire transfer.

There's no need to worry about losing the domain. There's a grace period for domains after they expire, typically 30-45 calendar days, so the 5-6 day transfer leaves plenty of extra time.

Slappin Fish 10-29-2014 03:09 AM

Tried 3 different cards, nothing worked, ended up having to transfer funds from paypal.

I don't panic easy but it's staring to look bad now, moving out.
