Update on Dave the homeless guy I am mentoring

It has been a little over a month since I posted about Dave the homeless guy. Last time I saw him I gave him some cash, a hug, and some tips. I advised him to stop moaning at people because it was scaring them away. I suggested he smile and wave and say things like "God bless you" to people.
Today I visited Dave once again on this regular corner. I gave him a bright red new hat that reads "And so it goes". I figure it will make him more visible and also thought it was a great description of his daily activities. I offered another hug and he declined. LOL But I did ask him if he has been making any more money and he said he had been making about $40-$60 a day. Which was more than he was making when he was moaning at people. He seemed in better spirits and was very thankful.

It's great you're taking an interest in the disadvantaged around you. You are observant of the world around you and making a positive difference well done :thumbsup

The guys selling Seahawks gear in the parking lot about 15 feet away were not happy with me:1orglaugh I told them that had I not been helping him they would have to hear him moaning all day long.

Making more than most of the morons here.

VikingMan 10-24-2014 06:28 PM

I am pleased you guys are enjoying my update. I will update again next month. Anyone want to have him wear your T shirt or other promotional item? As long as it is not porn related I am sure he would not mind. Thousands of cars pass by him every day. Not too shabby:2 cents:

Panhandling is a decent profession. If he "earns" $50 a day that's about $18k per year in cash. He might not work hard for the money but he provides a service to make people feel like they've accomplished their good deed for the day.

Will he be able to ask for money and hold my cash4gold sign at the same time?

hmm why doesn't he just get a job wearing those signs on busy street corners? Oh maybe because then he would make less money and have to pay taxes on his income rather than just begging for hand outs :thumbsup

Good luck to him. Their is a homeless guy who is often outside our local supermarket. Really nice guy who has a lovely dog and I often get him some food from the store (sandwiches, some milk, a few quid for something hot and some treats for his dog). He is so very grateful.

VikingMan, does Dave have any vices? Solvents/alcohol etc.? Not being critical...just curious.

Couldn't control yourself eh? :warning

L-Pink 10-24-2014 06:57 PM

Years ago when I was a tire wholesaler there was a homeless guy I would give a few bucks to that would panhandle in the same area everyday and he wore an old ripped nasty Pirelli winter coat. When my Pirelli rep was in town I drove us by on the way to lunch and said it was bad publicity and Pirelli should get the guy a new coat.

A week later I get a package from Pirelli with a note with the packing list telling me to make sure the bum got the enclosed new coat. It was a Michelin jacket, lol.

I have embraced this man and did not smell any booze on him. He says he hardly ever drinks. Today he did not smell of booze. So far no evidence. However I drink heavily at least 2 or 3 days a week.:1orglaugh

Well my goal is to help get him off the streets. I suppose I could have picked a more promising homeless guy but let's see what happens. I have helped countless dogs and cats get off the streets and into a good home so why not a human? I have actually hired a few homeless people for my offline business but they were younger recovering drug addicts. This guy Dave is old and I think he enjoys his current gig a little too much. By the way I photoshop those silly cartoon sunglasses on him to protect his identity.

I heard that dogs help. Loads of dog people out there. You gotta feed them though. But they can let you relax when you are asleep. It is difficult to sleep when you are worried about being attacked.

I like your advice VikingMan. I have had a homeless man call me a bum. He didn't get anything from. Young, big guy too.

Another time, An old guy asked "you got change". I said "no". He said "well god bless you anyways". I gave him a buck.

Be careful when you feed stray dogs, they usually bite.

PornDiscounts-V 10-25-2014 01:25 AM

Contrasts. He now makes more than 80% of GFY does outside of having a regular day job.

We have a local guy named Riley. He went to school with us. Come December we all pitch in to get him a hotel room until March so he doesn't to bear the cold and rain.

Jel 10-25-2014 02:28 AM

What's with that insistence for hugging that homeless guy?? LOL.

nico-t 10-27-2014 03:20 PM

gave some homeless dude cash and a hug? Sounds weird and creepy. Why the hell would you hug some other dude?

edit: The fact he declined your completely weird second hug says enough - he probably thought the same thing.
