Why age checks on porn sites will do more harm than good
 

Earlier this year, the Authority for Television on Demand demanded that UK porn websites be forced to check all users are over 18 in an attempt to stop children accessing adult material. To give their clarion call added panic, they claimed that one in 20 visitors to porn sites are aged under 18.

People who mandate age checks probably love that porn sites are hurt by it.

it's probably the whole point of it in the first place.

They don't do more harm then good. This is a dumb argument. Anyone would agree that allowing underage children to access hardcore porn is not good for them. How can you even think of taking the other side accept on the freedom of speech argument?

Well, I personally been viewing porn since I became a teenager and I have no ill effects, that being said I dont want people under 18 looking at my sites but I really dont think its harmful nor is there any evidence it is. Also, good luck stopping it, its the parents job and its damn near impossible if you dont want your teenager looking at it.

it all seems pointless unless its a global thing. as a parent i intend to do all i can to keep my kids from watching porn online. i am not going to fool myself into thinking that someone else is going to do it for me.

I dont know, you get rid of the spontaneous buyer but on the other hand if they use credit cards for id. You got traffic that are all pre qualified buyers.

I still find it odd how at 16 you can have sex and marry, have kids, but you're not allowed to view a pic of a naked women if she has her legs spread.

If it's about business then it depends on what side of the fence you make your money on.

If you're in production you want the age checks. Because they'll ultimately be a problem for the tube sites. Not to mention that pirate porn forums will come under more government scrutiny.


But tube site owners and other distributors of free porn will hate the age checks.

Now if we're talking about ethics.
Then porn is like smokes, booze, drugs or guns and it should be kept out of the hands of children.
