In Mexico...

It's been a long time since I've last been in Mexico - back again for a week of relaxing and working from a snow-free place. Thought I'd share my view :)

Part of Mexico are absolutely gorgeous & pristine. But, turn the other way and you see security guards packing full auto guns...

I suppose. Cabo seems really good though, some federal police, but they seem chill. No check points. Walked around with my big lens all day yesterday, no problem :)

Worse yet, cops/security wearing dirty uniforms, scuffed up shoes, unshaven, caring guns. Not my idea of where to go to relax. :2 cents:

canadians are obsessed with travelling to mexico for some reason. I get it that they have nice resorts and they are dirt cheap now, but the violence and corruption there is truly third world bad..

Cabo seems really polished. Police drive around in all new shiny pick-up trucks, nice clean uniforms, keep to themselves. Not like the last time I was here (further up the peninsula).

Maybe because Canada is in the north and does not have the likes of Florida in their country. And Mexico is not that far away.

elmy 11-12-2014 10:29 AM

fucking nice :)

pornguy 11-12-2014 10:30 AM

Love the misconceptions of whats going on in Mexico.

Star69 11-12-2014 02:36 PM

nice view

seeric 11-12-2014 02:38 PM

If you go to Mexico with a Mexican mentality and don't look like a tourist, you will be fine. I know the language well enough to carry on meaningful conversation and have never had an issue anywhere in Mexico, including the shady places. Probably have been there 50-75 separate times in the last 15 years.

Elli 11-12-2014 02:49 PM

Love that view, wow.

I'm taller than 5'7", don't have black hair and brown skin, so I'm not going to fool anyone huh? :1orglaugh

Police in CABO make hardly any money, slave pay.

They make all their money in bribes. That is why you always carry a crisp $100 bill because it will buy you out of almost any trouble you may run into down there.

dillonaire 11-12-2014 04:28 PM

I love mexico!!! I go there 2 - 3 times a year. I stay at the same hotel (adults only) in Puerto Vallarta. Its only 3hr flight from SF. They always remember me and everyone is sooo incredibly nice & upgrade my room to a huge suite for always coming back.

Enjoy dude!

Assuming this isn't code for something else...

I always go with my 18-200 and keep it at wide angle (short) when I'm walkin' around not using it. Makes the camera a little less obvious target.

Adding a few strips of gray duct tape to the camera body to make it look old and less valuable can also help.

Nice view, btw.

Whats funny about Canadians in Mexico is they are adamant about letting everyone know they are Canadian. Hanging flags outside on their balconies, hats, stickers on their luggage

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

As far as the corruption & violence you will never see any of that in the tourist areas. I go down there all the time and even been into where the locals live, on the dirt roads n shit. wouldnt make sense it would kill a major source of revenue for mexico if shit went down. Plus, no one wants to piss off the USA cuz our military will come down there and fuck shit up. California will be HUGE if they fuck around.

Validus 11-12-2014 05:25 PM

Yea, still no complaints about crime or police. Maybe they are a bit less eager to jump on the few tourists that come after the hurricane. Seems like many of the resorts are still shut down... they are making good progress though.

They do that shit everywhere they go, not just in Mexico. It's fucking comical.

Poppy 11-12-2014 11:12 PM

Nice view brother.

disinfected 11-12-2014 11:45 PM

Lol at no corruption statement.

You can visit, you can drive dirt roads, doesn't mean you know shit.

Anyone reading this and want to have fun in MX.... have a hundo in your wallet. Thank me later.

Dude, look in a mirror, now flex, THATS why they do not fuck with you. No one, not even a mexican is that el stupido. :winkwink:

But yeah, what you said is kinda true though Jerry recently invited/welcomed Mexico en masse to live in California.

Robbie 11-13-2014 12:56 AM

I've been to Mexico a lot.

Took my kids down to Cabo San Lucas a couple of years ago to a nice ocean front family resort (all inclusive meals and drinks of course)

When it's just me and my wife we go to the adults only resorts and have a blast. Super nice, no problems at all.

And I also go down to Tijuana every once in a while to party.

I stay at Pueblo Amigo hotel/casino there. It's a pretty nice place.
Also walk all over town both day and night.
Again, never any problems. Never had to bribe any cops, never had anyone be anything but nice to me there.

I love Mexico because you can really have a lot of fun down there for very little money.

Plus 18 year old's can drink too. (you know, the way it used to be here in our "free" country). So it makes the bar scenes a lot funner to have young adults in them partying (just like when I turned 18 here in the states...it was still legal to drink at 18 then and the clubs were always packed)
That's why so many students head to Mexico now for Spring Break in Cancun.

Not everyone in Mexico has the same skin colour. Most descend from the mix of Native Americans and Europeans, so you may find everything between those colours of skin.

Lets be honest canadians are are obsessed with travelling to any warm place.
You go to any tourist friendly 3rd world country and you're bound to find a bunch of Canadian expats there.

slavdogg 11-13-2014 05:54 AM

dont fuck with the cops there
if you get caught with drugs or something shit, quickly pay off the cop and get the fuck away.
I've seen mexican jails, they're shit holes, dont ever take your chances even if you're right

That's because they don't want anyone to think they're from the US.
