How to pronounce Worcestershire Sauce?

aka123 11-19-2014 09:51 AM

Wosszzscssoo saaze? Did I get it? :)

People usually just use the brief, common form which can pronounced simply as:

Wor-chest-ter-shire sauce

However,

Don't people just abbreviate this to:

Woo-ster sauce

Or am I confusing it with another sauce?

^^ this. ^^
As someone that lives near Worcester, its definately pronounced "wuss-ter" in two syllables. Very nice it is too in casseroles, soups and splashed across cheese-on-toast

I visited Worchester, MA not too long ago and they called me out on my bad pronunciation. I said something along the lines of "Woor-chester" when it supposedly was meant to be said as "WOUSSTER". Never did get the hang of it.
