What do the rest of the world really think about other countries?

What do you and your fellow countrymen/women think about particular countries?

For example...
Strong or weak nations?
Cool places or shit places to live?
Completely fucked-up hell on earth locations?

I like to travel and at some point in my life, I would like to live somewhere different than here (UK).

I`m interested to know peoples thoughts. :)

Listen, it's like this:

EVERY country thinks its the "best" country in the world and EVERY citizen of any country thinks THEIR country is #1.

There ya go.

Unless you`re on a wind-up, I certainly don`t think that Britain is Great (anymore).

Well I ditched the UK long ago......... for me, if I look back it lost its greatness over a century ago but only really hit me personally around the turn of the millennium ie from around 2000 onwards. Now I see this country as a sinking ship.

Huge amount of debt. All sorts of stupid policies, political correctness gone mad, police state, big government, welfare gone bonkers, high taxation, corrupt banking, insane crime levels. I think I posted earlier some nice disability benefits:

I as a true 'Merican firmly believe that Europe is one of the best countries that there is. I don't really like that Africa country or that Asia country. Hawaii is also a great country.

I've lived in a few countries and most people don't claim that all.

Sure but he's right - there's always a nationalistic contingent of people who will always say his country is the best. That may be partly because the vast majority of the masses have seldom travelled outside the country of their citizenship or birth or whatever. Plus very few people have the education to be able to separate a simple thing like "Objective" versus "Subjective" - most people don't know the difference.

And as Kipling said: "What can he know of England, Who England only knows." In other, words how can you compare another country to your own if you haven't even left your home country.

True, it was his use of the word 'EVERY' that made the statement incorrect.

ps re Kipling.. Now I want a fruit slice.:)

I never said how my country is best :1orglaugh

SylviaMaroon 11-20-2014 07:17 AM

i never said my home country was the best either

it would be nice to be patriotic tho..

maybe american ppl think that way? that us is the land of all greatness?

however I like how UK and Ireland seems to have some pride
i see a lot of websites ( even websites of a crappy mobile phone shop ) stating that it's 100% Irish.. oh wait maybe that's just a sign against emigrants? :D

but I do see Irish produce being a thing, ppl would rather buy Irish cheese, milk, beef, chicken than anything else, and it's not neceserally the case in my home country

Choopa_Pardo 11-20-2014 07:30 AM

I love the US and all, but the system is damaged and the machine is dying.

Don't plan on living in the Northeast forever. I'd like to relocated to Denver, or Seattle/Washington State in coming years.

I'm going to Scotland next year, perhaps I'll stay there permanently and get a job at one of the distilleries on Islay.

Vadame 11-20-2014 07:50 AM

It depends of type of people you are talking with. Those soccer fans are idiots, as I am concerned. There is no smart person that can think that he is better just because he was born somewhere.

I don`t think you know the first thing about football (soccer). Football fans tend to be totally realistic on their team`s ability and chances whether playing a club game, a European game or an International.

Our national team (England) have some of the most dedicated supporters in the world yet if they play one of the giants in the world game, they know only too well that technically, we will be second best.

All of the countries I've been to are mostly the same, more or less. You can talk about the differences between the US, Canada, UK, France, and the Czech Republic, but at the end of the day it's all pretty much the same.

For me it's all about the weather... This is why I'm moving to Hawaii.

John_Galbani 11-20-2014 08:54 PM

I like to live in Spain. Not much in US because big city is very dangerous and I don't like small towns.

The world's 10 best cities to live in - Telegraph

As a Brit, if standard of living is up top this list is reasonable. Note Australia, Canada, Finland, Norway always seem to win in the annual scoring charts for most livable cities. The UN report ranks based upon over a hundred factors.

adultchatpay 11-26-2014 10:38 PM

a country with low cost of living, low crime rate and they have pretty girls, i consider that the best.

Gee... well there's shit loads which meet that criteria. You'd have to set some more parameters if you want to narrow the field.

Stop reading Daily Mail nonsense and anyone can see the UK is an exciting great place to live.
Political Correctness gone mad = stop telling racist jokes
Welfare gone Mad = you try living on £60 a week jobseeker allowance
High taxation = good free hospitals and schools
Insane crime levels = Crime has been falling for years

It is a great place because London is a world city, thanks to immigrants.

Assuming that pic is actually real and not staged: either she's the boss or she chose to do it out of her own free will.

No one in their right mind could be forced to do something like that, in Sweden. So I assume that would open up another option: she's mentally impaired. :)
