Domain Squatting Pisses Me Off!

I hate people who get domain names and then don't do anything with them - damn squatters. At least put up some advertisement. Maybe forward it to some affiliate program. Just do something with it or let somebody else use it. I bet half those owners are dead or something and the domain names just float around.

izombie 11-19-2014 03:23 PM

Pisses me off too but I still do it.

TeenCat 11-19-2014 03:29 PM

and what is the problem? that is business, right? if i see good domain that i may have plan for it, it is no problem to spend 8usd per year, just to have the domain if i like it, just to prevent anyone else to have it, and once i am ready and have time and energy for it, i will do something with it ... :2 cents: :winkwink:

pimpmaster9000 11-19-2014 03:43 PM

what I find amusing is that there are so many other extensions free like .com is the only way to go...

Fat Panda 11-19-2014 04:48 PM

Domain squatting it a term used to describe registration of trademarked domains by non-affiliated 3rd parties. If the domains are generic, the registrants are domain investors, not domain squatters.

They're not squatting.

Would you say the same of someone holding an empty plot of land?

Or blocking a private car registration plate and not putting it onto a car?

My guess is that you're having a problem registering a domain that you want (mostly likely a dot com). It would be easy to be inventive and actually find an option but most people can't be bothered and prefer to complain about something they need to just deal with and find a solution for - that's what it's all about.

You wont be successful in business unless you behave like a "non-victim" :2 cents:

Contact them and offer to buy it and develop the name if it is so relevant.
Otherwise 50% of the internet is parking. If your parking domains see my sig.

I refuse to share. Hahaha.

It's just frustrating, not saying it should be "forbidden".

What really sucks when a domain is with a Chinese registrar and the WHOIS details are wrong or not there at all - cause I can't read Chinese and contact them.

HiddenDoorCash 11-25-2014 09:29 AM

bump for you!

What he said, it's called an investment. Just like a piece of land with NO house sitting on top of it.

You can make an offer on the land if you are really serious about buying it I am sure.

Validus 11-25-2014 10:35 AM

Blah Blah Blah. I just spent $4,000 on a domain name and will sit on it. Just cause I can - kind of. :)

Thank you for all your emotional support during this difficult time in my life. Please carry on!

File a complaint with ICANN if that is the case.

mineistaken 11-25-2014 11:37 AM

They pay for the names so they have 100% moral and ethical right to not do anything with them.

It's not so much the squatting than the ridiculous prices people want.

Your fucking threekeywords.bathtub domain isn't worth $20k

Yes, they are not sleeping tonight, because of this thread:helpme

Ramster 11-25-2014 04:31 PM

What pisses me off is Moniker and other domain registrars have domains for no reason that I can see (other than maybe at some point they must have had traffic so they keep them themselves when a person cancelled it). Then years later you buy a domain similar so you go to buy the misspelling and it's owned by said registrar and low and behold it's listed at Sedo so you go to make an offer, just in case since it is a misspelling, and they want $2500 minimum for it lol. You check Alexa ranking because you think maybe you're missing something and nope, Alexa gives you the ole "We don't have enough data to rank this website".

Now THAT's swatting :321GFY
