Are you implementing SSL?

Where do you like to buy SSL certificates and why did you choose your preferred vendor?

Seems like things are going this way, at least with Google, whether or not it makes any sense.

Do you implement it for just your flagship sites or for everything? If you use it on everything, do you buy multiple ones or put it all on one?

you can get ssl certs for $10 a year or less in volume there no reason not to put a ssl cert on important sites nowdays.

Is there an advantage, in your view, to getting the more expensive EV or whatever certs? Is there any disadvantage to a cert?

On my major mainstream site that brings in massive profit per year=yes
On some not as important sites=no :2 cents:

Agreed, http://www.NameCheap.com has cheap options at $9.00 and $10.95 year without buying in volume.

if a paysite is making 200k+ a year i might get a expensive crt but for most people the cheap ones do fine most surfers dont know what ssl is even.

I do free universal SSL certs through CloudFlare, and then self sign between my servers and CloudFlare for a full SSL connection.

Aren't the more expensive ones only like $400-ish? I'll spend $400 to make $800, if there is an advantage. I'd rather not spend $400 to just waste $400.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around what the plusses of SSL are. I get that Google might prefer it. Does Google prefer a more pricey one to a free one?

I think I've read too much on this, at this point, and just gave myself too many options.

Proper SSL is not a waste of $400 by any stretch. The expensive ones give better stuff, like actual company verification, the whole "Company Name" in the green bar in Chrome, and also insurance and all that good stuff.

SSL is a legacy protocol and nowadays all versions of SSL are considered insecure.

Use TLS instead.
