Kim Dotcom may go back to jail tomorrow

Let's hope this guy gets the justice his victims deserve.

Quote:

Entrepreneur Kim Dotcom says he is broke and has become a political pariah with the New Zealand government.

He has told Unbound Digital he has a bail hearing at the Auckland District Court in New Zealand on Thursday.

"I am having a bail hearing where they are trying to lock me up and put me in jail again," Dotcom said in the video released overnight.

"They are trying to lock me up and put me in jail again. Without a lawyer I am defenceless, so this might be the last public appearance - if I go back to jail you can say this was the one..."

He said the bid to extradite him had "drained my resources and dehydrated me" and that he had no lawyers and was defenceless.

Dotcom's legal team, behind his three year-long $10 million battle to fend off extradition to America, has dropped him as a client.

He has a new lawyer, Ron Mansfield, who succeeded on Monday in getting a bail hearing delayed until he could read the files. But his bail conditions have been tightened and he is no longer allowed to use helicopters, travel by boat and must remain within 80 kilometres of his home.

Kim Dotcom 'officially broke right now'

Naughty 11-26-2014 03:07 AM

If you can travel by helicopter, by best guess is you ain't broke :2cents:

Putting away your money in a safe place != broke either.

If the copyright owner win the case against some piracy website two times in a raw in the court, that website will be blocked by all Russian ISP's forever. That's very simple and fair enough. Isn't it?

Why doesn't it work against Western illegal tubes, filelockers, torrents etc? DMCA is a joke and you know it.

Biased toward copyright holders? The ones who made and own the content? Imagine that.

Wow! Your website can't have stolen content? You can't profit off the work and creativity of others? You'll have to actually spend money for your content? It's about time. And Russia will have the balls to make this stick. I hope this spreads to other countries.

Go Russia :thumbsup

The bill provided for the extrajudicial blocking of websites simply suspected of copyright violations
That's a vef slippery slope. It sounds to me like some paper pushers will get to decide, without necessarily being provided with any proof, what sites are infringing on someone's copyright. Who's to say that this won't result in independent media sites being blocked, under the guise of copyright protection? Hell, if they apply this very strictly, then Russians can kiss YouTube good-bye, to name just one example.

Oh heavens no! ohhh nooo!!! a slippery slope!! Fuck it - it's gotten beyond ridiculous that these kinds of measures ARE NEEDED, regardless of colateral damage. Push piracy back into the underground, and out of the first fucking results on google/etc (fucking bastards)

But VK.com will stay open because owners are friends with government. Its Russia after all and nothing will change. They have laws against porno and prostitutes too but who cares.

Don't read the Soviet press. Read the Law. It clearly says: you have to prove 2 times in the Court that your content was stolen.

Friends? Really? Enlighten us please. As about vk.com, so after it was left by Durov, it has a very easy copyright take-down mechanism.

The legal status of porn is still vague in Russia. So it's being enforced in case of CP only (do you have any problems with that, ah?) As about prostitution, so there is no Criminal Code for it. To say it simple: prostitution is not forbidden in Russia. Pimping is forbidden, but not the prostitution. You can not sue a women/man (in your case) for prostitution. Russia is not the USA and prostitution is not a crime here.

You can bitch and moan all you want, but content piracy isn't going anywhere any time soon. I don't like it any more than you do, but at least I try to be realistic and accept the fact that things will never be the same for content producers.

Alright. Hopefully they will follow proper procedure and not use this as a tool to shut up dissident media.

I know this is an odd question but does Russia do much in the way of copyrighted material? Movie industry etc?

You would think they would be happy to steal stuff. Or at least the Russians, I know, are.

They already have a tool to shut up dissident media. The new law is all about copyrighted content only.

Yes of course. Russian movie/TV and music industries are very huge. I strongly believe this law was initiated by them.

Quote:

Труд свободен. Каждый имеет право свободно распоряжаться своими способностями к труду, выбирать род деятельности и профессию.
Статья 37, п.1 Конституция Российской Федерации
For those who can't read Russian:

Involving/forcing into prostitution (human trafficking): article 240 of Russian Criminal Code (3-8 years in jail)
Pimping (organization of brothels): article 241 of Russian Criminal Code (5-10 years in jail)
Having sex with underage prostitutes (16-18 y/o): article 240.1 of Russian Criminal Code (up to 4 years in prison)

That's all. There are no other articles related to prostitution in Russian Criminal Code.

Nice to backpedal fucking idiot. Nobody say it was criminal. Its administrative punishment - Занятие проституцией ? ст. 6.11 КоАП РФ

Quote:

To say it simple: prostitution is not forbidden in Russia
First sentence in wikipedia - В Российской Федерации проституция запрещена

Google translates this to - In the Russian Federation , prostitution is prohibited

You are a real idiot, dude. КоАП is not a Criminal Code. It's an administrative one. If I spit on the street, swear or smoke a cigarette where I shouldn't, using klaxon in the city etc. Is it a crime? No, stupid Albanian fag. It is not. It's just an administrative infraction, which I will be fined for. The same applies to prostitution. A systematic provision of sexual services for money (wonder how a policeman will prove it) is fined up to 1000-2000 rubles (oh, no!!! :1orglaugh). FYI: an average low level prostitute in Moscow earns 5000+ rubles per hour. And once again: she can not be sued/imprisoned for that. In the USA she can, but not in Russia.

It's like to say that driving faster than 60 km/h in the city is prohibited.
