Black Friday 2014

Any plans to do some early Christmas shopping on black Friday?

Where are all the deals? Personally, I'm looking forward to the Walmart videos that I know will start showing up. :1orglaugh

Canada will once again fake Black Friday.

200 bucks off tv's in canada...woop de doo.

Rochard 11-26-2014 02:03 PM

Why do Canadians celebrate Black Friday? You had your thanksgiving like two months ago or what not.

Local news reported with a negative attitude that Costco would be closed on Thanksgiving. Personally I would love to see consumers boycott anyone open on Thanksgiving.

most of the big box stores here are american, another excuse to get people in the doors is all. Boxing day, the day after christmas is our version of black friday but it really makes little sense to do that after christmas. black friday sales here only started popping up the past few years.

Get that fat little fuck indoctrinated into the consumer orgy early! :thumbsup

I am sure she will continue to eat throughout her life trying to fill the void in her soul that no amount of food or material possessions can ever fill...

I am taking my kid to Best Buy in order to instill the herd mentality and shallow consumerism. If we do not trample on other people's heads or get our own heads trampled on while rushing to save 40% on cheap Chinese crap made by slave labor then I will feel like a failure in life.

They just piggyback on the hype of what people see on US television to get bodies into the stores. Not much more than that.

i look at deal forums and buy what those people say is a good deal

This thread reminds me of Black Friday 2009. I stood in line about an hour early to get a hard drive that was marked way down. Once inside the store and having the hard drive in hand I looked around a bit. That's when I came upon this cute couple looking at a TV on sale and I overheard them talking about how much they wanted to buy it but had no way of getting it home in their small car. One thing leads to another and I end up volunteering to put the TV in my truck to help them out. So they are really happy about this. Then we all get in the massive, slow moving line that stretched all the way down the back wall of the store. At some point they were whispering to one another and looking at me and giggling. Then the guy says "It's nice of you to do this. Maybe we can make it up later." That has certain overtones to it, but I wasn't sure so just kind of said okay and downplayed it. Then like 20 minutes later I felt someone pinch my ass and I quickly turned around and they were both looking at me smiling. Then I knew for sure what they were up to. So finally we get to the register, pay and get the TV loaded up. The girl drives their car and the guy rides with me. I suppose to make sure I don't steal the TV. He doesn't mention anything about "returning the favor" during the short ride to their house. We get there and me and the guy carry the TV in. I sat on the couch to pet the dog and the girl goes upstairs. Then the guy sits on the couch, says that she isn't feeling well and he puts his hand on my leg.

Nobody "celebrates" Black Friday. Only a few people, like you obviously, think it's an actual celebration.

In reality it's simply a commercial event, invented by retailers to get yet another big shot at peddling large volumes of shit. It's been spreading to Canada, it is now spreading in Europe and it wouldn't surprise me if it was spreading to other parts of the world.

The retailers use this primarily to get rid of overflow stock, "yesterday's goods". They do so for several reasons. One of them is the hope of people buying more stuff, at regular retail prices, while they're in there looking for deals. Some even procure large stocks of cheap Chinese crap they use to lure in customers to the store. Others use certain low-price items as loss leaders, for the same reason.

Another is to sell off previously unsold stock they simply got stuck with, in order to make room for new, fresher/more modern stuff. Old stuff in their warehouses, which cannot be sold, simply costs them money they'd be making if their warehouses were filled with goods they can sell at regular price.

Cyber Monday was invented for the same reason. And many retailers use any post-holiday times as a pretext to sell more and get rid of old stuff. As an example, many retailers mark down stuff heavily after Christmas. People have already done their Christmas shopping at regular prices and much of what's left is overflow, dead weight.

Britain too. We're proud of being British, but why not leave Black Friday to the US, as they don't do it right :(

Happy thanks giving to you all btw :thumbsup

The Boxing day sales have lost their importance. Now its Boxing Week sale, right before Xmas.
