I was born and brought up in London, and left there for New York in the early 80's. I still consider that move the best thing I ever did in my life.

London has a lot going for it and since when has "Sarf London" been the better part?

I left London because I ditched the UK as a whole for number of reasons including politics but people from up north of England usually end up living in the poor parts of London like parts of the South and East and then end up with a bad memory of London.

But I must say, I've travelled to over 50 countries and been to many more cities and as a city London is vibrant, happening and has some of the most fun nightlife and restaurants and so on. It has a definite excitement and buzz.

But the UK is a pile of shit as a whole and is "DEFINITELY" on a downtrend.... especially now that there are so many more exciting interesting places in Asia. Honestly, all I have to do is listen to a minute of a speech from David Cameron to know I made the right decision but im not sure I agree with the article much.

I was born there and lived over 30 yrs in London and never had a single problem with any muslim and lots of muslim friends. However, I was affect by crime - mugged twice and attacked once.

Crime is a big problem in London (in my case, it was black youths).

I didn't say anything about South London, but maybe you're psychic--I grew up on a lovely council estate in Croydon.

London is a shite hole. I'd def move out to NY instead.

So is it any surprise that your experience of the UK is so tainted? Croydon is terrible in many parts.... and just OK in the rest of it. I grew up in very leafy, expensive parts of west and north London so I have a different perspective altogether but I'd still choose London over other cities like NY or Paris any day...... inspite of the fact that Paris may be one of the most beautiful cities.

That said, for too many reasons the UK is basically a sinking ship....

Saw a lot of protests and blocked streets in downtown Montreal and Ottawa over the years that look eerily similar to this. People demonstrating because of the problems in their countries. This doesn't garner support, this causes more dissension and hatred towards the "oppressed". It's sad to see what's happening in London...

Not really. Funding aging population is not that hard. Old folks are not that poor to start with, not to mention the whole population. There will be just less money for other things.

And at this point, it's anyways too late to start make kids to take care of the old folks (baby boom folks). There will be just more immigrants and that is not so cheap, especially as economy isn't going so well.
