US police made over 12 million arrests in 2011
 

With such a huge number, shouldn't we expect some to go badly?

The number itself is bad. Too many things are "criminal" in America. It's sick.

DRUGS!! when you go broke you have to support your high. the reason dealers get busted. they start shooting!

Legalize drugs and prostitution immediately and most of Americans problems are solved.

• How much money did the courts take in.
• How many law enforcement jobs did this support?
• How much did this cost taxpayers?

You do need to police a society but where do you draw the line?

Notwithstanding the costs and the support of the law administration machine, out of this many arrests for a few to go bad is not that surprising.

I read something today that said that 70% of Americans have done something that would have put them in prison if caught and convicted. There are 3000+ laws on the books for the police to enforce.

Reagan's Anti Drug Abuse Act. He appropriated an additional $1.7 billion to fund the War on Drugs by strengthening the DEA and established 29 new mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenses. Since then more than half of all incarcerations have been drug offenses.

That's 500000 arests per month. WOW
