Instagram now bigger than Twitter
 

"Instagram has told Newsbeat it has the potential to "change the world" as it announced it has overtaken Twitter with 300 million users.

The company's CEO Kevin Systrom described the milestone as "exciting" and said the company would "continue to grow".

Twitter claims to have 284 million users accessing the network each month.

Facebook, which boasts 1.35 billion monthly active users, bought Instagram in 2012.

Speaking to Newsbeat ahead of the announcement, Kevin Systrom said: "Instagram is about seeing a live pulse of the world right now, it's not just about taking a photo of a cute baby or a cute dog."

Instagram is also introducing verified accounts similar to the blue tick symbols used by Facebook and Twitter"

Except for marketing and (self) promo I do not see much use for them. You can share pictures to your friends via fb already.

Perhaps I'm not seeing the site correctly but is there a way to use Instagram without some sort of mobile APP?

I want to take pictures using my camera and not some phone or tablet.


For family and friends I'm still using Email and the CC function. We're still using various pop3 programs.

I was thinking it would have to be that way. Problem is the tablets are so limited in what they can do that I haven't seen mine in about 3 months. I've put some where bot no clue where.

When I first heard of Instagram, I thought is was another type of 1-800-Flowers thing. Stupid name. There is another dumb trendy one out there that will fade away soon enough.

The only thing you can do is use an Android emulator on a PC or Mac. It's really stupid that some of these apps completely ignore the computer platform.

This is even more proof that webmasters whom redirect their mobile traffic away from their sites for quick profits are killing their long term future. Still to this day I often come across sites which redirect all mobile traffic.

Instagram has been around since 2010, it's not exactly a "new" trendy thing, it's just where people have started going to avoid facebook.

Back when MySpace ruled social networks it eventually became known as the ghetto network and all the cool kids went to Facebook. Now the same fate has landed on FB and the cool kids abandon it to use Instagram.

While it may eventually also get replaced, it's likely to have a good 10 year run as it's the "popular" place with the current generation of kids.

Yeah Instagram is not adult friendly. They don't even want nipples showing there. They have blocked some hashtags, but ironically allow others that allude to the same thing. #tits is blocked as one example but #boobz is allowed

I hear that name often, yet I still did not visit the site and not know what it is about (except what title suggests), lol.
Thats how much I case about those useless (when almost all of them just repeats what can be done on another) sites that are made so that people could have another one to waste their time on.

Next time someone brings up the topic of how the adult industry has stopped innovating, please refer them to this thread for an explanation. :2 cents:

Yes, Pixsta or InstaPic/InPic.
Or just pick up a mac for a couple of hundred dollars. I'm sure you'd find various uses for it and/or convert to OS X from Windows.
Or run the instagram app in a mobile emulator such as Genymotion.

I believe it, everyone in my circle from personal to business never touches twitter anymore, it's all instagram with auto sharing to other services.

But they are pretty different, most often you want to say something without adding a photo. Not sure how IG could change twitter, 2 different things.

Photo is a 1000 words Chinese tells... so is better than Twitter with texts...

Andy Android Emulator works ok, but certain things don't work well.

Instagram is the ultimate narcissistic network from people taking pictures of food, fitness crazed junkies to people having accounts for their cats and pets. It's great for mobile traffic and marketing nn though

It's a bit fucked up also if you look up some hashtags like #ana and #skinny, lots of cutting among kids giving each other tips on how to do the shit. They are going to police it pretty heavy in the future I would think
