Anyone here gone on a water only fast?

Care to share your experiences? I'm thinking of doing it for spiritual, physical, and motivational purposes.

Likewise, an actual fast, as in, just drinking water, has some research showing that it's useful.

Cleanses sometimes involve fasting or near-fasting, and that can actually have benefits, unless you have medical conditions or do it for too long. There is ample research demonstrating the effect of fasting on longevity; how fasting promotes autophagy, reduces mitochondrial oxidative stress, general decrease in signals associated with aging, and the potential to prevent and treat chronic illness, at least on some level. "Intermittent fasting" may be a viable option for those otherwise looking at specific cleanse diets. You basically limit eating to a few hours a day (typically around 8). That is a simple and sustainable way of eating, and doesn't involve buying cleanse products.

I was doing it for years,it is called lunar diet, basically when moon shifts in period of 24 hours you dont eat anything, only drink water.WIth it plus some other methods i lost 35 kg.Now regarding better condition, well yes it is good because you reduce pressure to your body so the body can take care of other things instead processing food. But bad effect of this how it is not for anyone, meaning it could also cause a damage to some organs if your organs are sensitive to that.

Wow 35KG! Amazing! Thanks for sharing. I'll definitely check with my doc first before I try fasting. I'm waiting to complete my 21 day juice/nuts/flaxseed routine. I'm interested primarily in fasting as a 'spiritual reset'

Yep, did did it 5 years ago for 7 days, helped me quit smoking without any NRT or withdrawal symptoms, the hunger pangs for the first few days hid any urge to smoke as urge to eat was greater, after 3/4 day no hunger at all, then came the mental clarity, felt energised and pure. Afterwards drank only fruit juices for first few days and ate only raw fruit and veg for next few weeks.

Regularly do the odd day here and there - planning on another 1 week fast in new year.

Quit smoking, practically cured severe anxiety/depression and overall health.

:2 cents:

wont help you find buddha but you'd get leaner at least.

naughtylaura 12-11-2014 02:28 PM

Yes but problem is how i gained that back :) Plus it wasn't just fasting what did the trick -i also didn't had dinner at all,and also eat much less then usual day after fasting along with long walk.

Actually you dont need to drink water at all,you can drink tea/lemonade or eat food which mainly contain water like watermelon.Just make sure it doesn't contain any sugar.

I read it wrong, thought this was going to be about speedboats going on the water fast. :winkwink:

dyna mo 12-11-2014 04:07 PM

every fucking day!

i intermittent fast 16-18 hours every day, water (black coffee in the mornings) only.

Varius 12-11-2014 10:25 PM

I've done 14 consecutive days and wanted to do a 30-day one, but travel/seeing old friends/family events got in the way.

Basically, you need to do it and pretty much forget having any kind of social life for awhile :)

After the initial 72 hours though, you will definitely feel more aware, sharp, energetic.

Most people who bash water fasting (aside from not understanding it) give up in the first 72 hours so all they get are the negative effects and never hit the positive period benefits.

Very important NOT to exercise with any intensity or you will simply burn muscle (breaking down muscle = fast fuel, ketosis - burning of stored fat for fuel = slow process).

I truly believe it can definitely heal many forms of disease, since your body has 100% of its energy for healing and wastes none on the ultra-heavy digestion process.

I think it can only be dangerous if you have specific genetic conditions, OR are at an already very low percentage of body fat.

this is totally new to me. care to share what is it about? is it the same as those fruit/veggie infused water diet?

TrashyGirl 12-12-2014 01:25 AM

I've done water diet for 24 hrs several times, more for a light cleansing. Organic juicing for 3 days usually every few months. And I usually do one juicing/smoothie meal per day.

I eat no breakfast or lunch, only water or G2 Low calorie Gatorade. If I do chose to eat something, it's one can of tuna with very little mayo for lunch (no bread).

I watch a movie while walking 80 minutes on my inclined treadmill. 80 minutes equals 400 calories. At the completion of the 80 minutes, I am -400 calories in the red. If my dinner consists of 800 calories, minus the treadmill -400, that equals 400 calories consumed for the day.

If the movie is good like 'Let's be Cops', I will remain on the treadmill for the entire movie. 'Nightstalker' was another great flick that kept me on the treadmill beyond the 80 minutes.

My motivation? I've become a fat slob of maybe 30 pounds overweight. Everything I wear is now is sweatsuit elastic. I can not remember the last time I wore a pair of jeans. My knees and ankles have become sore and achy.

The disadvantages? I've done this before and lost 25 pounds. My friends thought I was on drugs being the dark circles under and around my eyes. My face was sunk in which brought out more of my facial wrinkles. I had unlimited energy but looked like shit. Eventually I gained all the weight back plus an additional 10 pounds.

Double post, sorry

Intermittent fasting is great, but I wouldn't want to find out what happens to my body after going more than 24-48 hours without food.

I would recommend you check with your doc before ANY kind of fasting diet. Water only diet may harm your kidneys and cause certain parts of your system to literally shut down. Play it safe and check.

Watch the show 'Naked and Afraid'. Your body begins to physically break down after 72 hours of no food. Your body goes into starvation mode, begins to consume itself. Unless you're a trained Navy Seal who can endure not eating for 100 hours or more I would not recommend it.

I think fasting is great for the body and can help train your system to become a fat burner instead of a sugar burner, but some people get confused and starve themselves instead. Once your body starts digesting its own muscle as an energy source, the purpose has been defeated. That purpose being promoting muscle growth -- which is the main thing anyone should do if they want to lose fat. I try to explain this concept to friends and family and they look at me like I have 2 heads.

Eating just non animal food, prepared just on water, for 4 weeks, and you will go true resurrection of spirit :)

dready 12-12-2014 09:37 AM

I've done it a few times for three days at a time. It gets easier after the second day.

zolazola 12-12-2014 02:07 PM

You just need to do it for a couple of days at least

baddog 12-12-2014 02:10 PM

I do it all the time, just make sure the water has plenty of hops and barley in it.

PR_Glen 12-12-2014 02:23 PM

the body cleanses itself naturally... try avoiding poisoning it in between and you can skip the sugar water/snake oil torture sessions.

Dude, thanks for this. Much appreciated. Great info on ketosis.
