How many pull-ups can GFY'ers do?

Was at the gym, going about 4x's/week, I only do weights now and ZERO cardio, so i'm gaining weight, plus i drink tons of beer.

Tried doing pull-ups for the first time in years. I got 5 only :Oh crap

Wondering how many can YOU do?

Holy shit. I think that is quite a lot by any standard. Are you a gym whore?

Creatine 12-22-2014 03:06 PM

The most I have done in a row is 25. I hve done 300 pull ups before I sets of 5. Taking short 10 second breaks in between each set.

I have. Video somewhere on youtube doing pull ups actually. If I could find it I'll link it.

MaDalton 12-22-2014 03:07 PM

probably not even one

i played football and basketball. i have family that went pro not saying who :)

Rochard 12-22-2014 03:15 PM

I could not do one. I currently weight about 220lbs and obviously lack the upper body strength do a single one. When I was younger I could pump out twenty-five in a row easy.

Now, if you want to bike forty miles in two or three hours, I might just be your man.

Sly 12-22-2014 03:15 PM

The typical GFY webmaster can pull up 5 Snickers in one sitting.

Choopa Phil 12-22-2014 03:15 PM

Typically use them as a warm up so ill do a few sets of 15-20. weighted pull ups i can do 5 sets of 5 with 90lbs attached

Haters gun hate bruh...100 pull ups in sets of 20 with rest between isnt far fetched at all. Yea its a workout but if you go to the gym and actually train you can complete that with ease in a few months time. Most people mentally fail before their muscle fail.

GAMEFINEST 12-22-2014 03:40 PM

I can probably do 20 in one sititng, but I work out 4 times a week

pornmasta 12-22-2014 03:43 PM

Ever see a pic of Choopa Phil? Believe anything he says :thumbsup

Robbie 12-22-2014 04:33 PM

It would be according to what "kind" of pull up you are doing.

If I grab underhanded I can do a ton of them...

But doing them the RIGHT way, OVERhanded with a wide grip? I do the exact amount that I use for all my sets of excercises: 3 sets with 8 reps per set.

yes but the are some requirements :)

a week room at the hilton a rental car and unlimited meals

aka123 12-22-2014 04:44 PM

About 20 at the moment. Best record is 25.

seeandsee 12-22-2014 04:46 PM

From 5 to 10

Phoenix 12-22-2014 05:13 PM

I never really try to do them. However I see one guy at the gym doing them all the time. So the other day when he wasn't there I tried. I did three and thought holy crap they are hard. I stopped after three, I could have done more for sure. Not a lot more though. I am guessing about 3 more....maybe.

I will try and see how many I can do if i set my mind to it. I guess it is a great upper back workout. As Robbie said, I did the wide grip ones, over hand on the bar. Although I suspect the underhand grip close to the chest is also hard..lol

bronco67 12-22-2014 05:17 PM

Are we talking wide or close grip?

the biggest requirement is your doing 5 sets of 20 with 10-15 seconds rest in-between.

I'll take those odds! Btw, not saying you can't or haven't done this, but statistically, just being able to walk up to a pullup bar and bang out 5x20 pullups, the odds are against it i bet.

fappingJack 12-22-2014 05:44 PM

i no longer hit the gym for years so i doubt if i can even do 5 pullups hehe

slapass 12-22-2014 05:54 PM

I just did 6 and thought I was doing good. Fuck...

georgeyw 12-22-2014 05:59 PM

During the course of a workout about 100, no sure how many I could do in one set, maybe a 20 - 25.

Due 12-22-2014 06:08 PM

No idea, I can only count to 10 :helpme

15.

I exercise to maintain health now and keep a decent image, not to be ripped much.

3x a week, elliptical with some weights for mid and upper body.

Odds are even lower when you know that BM talks mostly BS + that he is not very young, if I remember correctly in 40-50s?

And at the very end, nobody knows how he looks like so he would send you young blood from this hood to assume his place :1orglaugh

Doing pull ups in 4 sets and doing 20 per set, means you can do 20 pull ups.

If you're going to fully rest and recover between sets... then obviously, you can start again and continue do more.

Furthermore, its requires muscular endurance (lactate/anaerobic), far more than strength and its not a hard thing to achieve if that's your goal or unless you are excessively overweight.

freecartoonporn 12-22-2014 09:08 PM

1/2.........

I would venture to guess that one who can do 4 sets of 20, can do significantly more than just 20 in one set. Unless they take 10 minute breaks between sets :1orglaugh

You don't "fully rest and recover between sets". That completely ruins the whole reason of doing sets.

You take about 15 seconds between sets. That gives the muscle enough time to get ready for the next set without it "cooling off".

There is a very good reason to do sets when you excercise. And it has nothing to do with resting or recovering...and everything to do with getting bigger and stronger.

If you fully rested and recovered between sets you would be back to zero on working that muscle.

And yeah, I know you're just saying that sets don't count in how many pullups can you do in a row without stopping. I was just pointing out what sets really mean.

SBJ 12-22-2014 09:31 PM

pull-ups?? I have no time for that but I've been known to do 24-36 16oz curls a night from time to time.. It does wonders for my 6 pack abs (maybe 12-18 pack).

jscott 12-23-2014 05:20 AM

Matt you rocking with 6packs nowadays???? (sbj)

Jel 12-23-2014 05:40 AM

probably almost 1 these days. Used to do 1000 press-ups, and 1000 sit-ups a day (sets of 100) back when I was a guest of her majesty. Obviously there was nothing high up though in the suites to be able to do pull-ups.

Milan_Quantox 12-23-2014 07:23 AM

I can do 4 sets with 10 reps... Think it really depends of your weight and how often you do them. I do them once a week when training backs. Zero cardio of course at this time of the year :1orglaugh
