Calling NK's bluff. Obama better hope they're idle threats.

Great news. I'm sure it will be playing at one of the indies in NYC. Likely Sunshine or the Film Forum.

This better send a message to every other American company.

Don't puss out on over 100 years of standing up for being able to say what you want, when you want it; art or reality. It's all the same.

We don't negotiate with terrorists or midgets.

Murica!

Jman 12-23-2014 11:30 AM

Still not seeing it anywhere up here in Canuckstikan :((( Hopefully we won't have to try and find a pirate version

Sony plans to release ‘The Interview’ on Crackle for free | New York Post

Sly 12-23-2014 12:03 PM

This wasn't Sony being bitches. This was every major movie chain dropping the movie, which is why you now see the indie theaters picking it up instead of the majors. My guess is the majors will pick it up again in a few weeks anyway.

Oh no I get that.

From a PR standpoint they came off like a bunch of pussies.

They should have said "We will not be censored, we will distribute this movie through ANY distribution channel that will take it. It is art. It is free speech."

Instead, they gave hackers around the world tremendous power.

They made a big mistake.

Live and learn.

Actually I disagree. They may have fucked up by giving in the first time. But now it'll probably break records at the box office. EVERYONE will want to see it, no matter how shitty. If anything, I'd say great save, way to make lemonade!

seeric 12-23-2014 12:12 PM

Imagine if it was all one giant marketing campaign. Brilliant.

That's all fine and well except for the fact that they are a business that still needs to recoup a high 8 figure investment and are entitled to figure out how to do that and take time to pause and reflect on how to work around an extremely unusual problem.

It has nothing to do with "freedom" or "censorship"

Not really. Your point above was valid. Executives would be upset, media heavy hitters they work with are upset. A severe blow to the reputation of the Sony super conglomerate.

Sony is a multibillion-dollar empire. One single movie that *might* net 7-8 figures is a drop in the bucket and not worth the loss in reputation, and even quite possibly, other deals.

It wouldn't surprise me. But that remains to be seen. If no Sony exec details leak out after the release, then we'll know for sure. :winkwink:

brassmonkey 12-23-2014 12:16 PM

fuk that :1orglaugh you may not get to finish the movie :helpme :1orglaugh if they did a comedy of the same could you imagine? they would be called terrorist and all kinds of shit

Maybe. But, the important part is American theatres refused to show it.

Jman 12-23-2014 01:10 PM

Quebec refuses to show the Interview. Fuck those pussies

Naughty 12-23-2014 01:11 PM

Watched the trailer earlier today, All the fuzz left aside, movie looks like fun.

Sadly since North Korea has now had their entire internet knocked offline, they likely didn't even get this announcement... heh

seeric 12-23-2014 01:38 PM

The bottom line is that nefarious internet terrorists outside of the United States successfully censored, albeit temporarily, what American's can and can not see. That was a victory for them, and the United States is seen as a weaker country now because of it. Just wait and see where this goes in the future. There is a "chink in the armor" now.

Maybe they are just waiting for the bilingual version to bee released?

If I was Sony I would have released it to stream on the PS4 only...

Of course it was. North Korea can't even make a round ball bearing. The only thing dumber than this propaganda piece are the serfs that fall for the ploy.

Major chains run multiplexes ... They could not afford to show it on their screens.... Would not be surprised if their insurrance prohibits this type of situation :2 cents:

Cliff notes of why did "they" try to suppress this movie?

Do you think they may have grown some balls after realizing the US government can shut down N Korea's internet at will?

I would give them some street credit if they pulled a 180 and this turned out to be the storyline the entire movie is based on

nico-t 12-24-2014 04:40 AM

Now the hacking drama really feels like clever propaganda to condition people that NK are the bad guys.

And it's a great marketing stunt for the film as well.

oh well, i don't believe anything i hear in the news anymore.
