My Christmas present to myself...I rented a farm

I just rented a small farm. It even has a little apartment above one of the barns so I can stay there whenever I want. We are going to have some cows, chickens, goats, and grow a few acres of veggies. There is also a nice big greenhouse as well. There are pheasants and ducks all over the place. It is a real farm because it smells like cow shit as there is a dairy farm just down the road. We are going to get started with the chickens and cows first and will be looking for some nice goats in a month or two. The neighbors have herd of alpacas. Life is good.

I took a picture of the alpacas but this picture on the net is basically the same thing so I don't have to upload mine

That is why it is very small. But yes will still be a lot of work. My kid will make some money selling the food at farmers markets and some will be donated. We already did this the last two summers just on a smaller scale.

EngineCash 12-26-2014 02:21 AM

HAhahahah, it seems like you will have a lot of fun there... :)

Klen 12-26-2014 02:37 AM

Ostriches! They dont need much and they taste great ;)

Make sure your fences are in tip top shape. Goats are escape artists. We had 4 goats when I was a kid and I swear I spent half my time chasing them down when they got out of the pasture.

no because the farmland that is close in to the city is way too expensive and will be turned into housing developments in the next 10 years. If I wanted to buy a farm it would have to be a farther drive and then it would not be convenient for me to tend to it. I can get there in 20 minutes from my house. Some Microsoft exec rents the rest of the farm and has some workers there who can keep an eye on things as well so it works out good.

That sounds like a lot of fun. Farms are hard work (even small ones), but I always find them relaxing, and enjoy being around the animals.

Seems like a lot of work effort for something that can be sold right from under you by the owner

I can just load up the animals in a trailer and move them to the next farm. I can actually keep them at my property where I live if I need to. Many of my neighbors have horses and chickens. I just don't want the rodents or the smell here. There is enough bear poop all over the place already. The guy who owns it has had it for 25 years and has no plans to sell it soon. I just want to get a couple of years out of it. I am also buying a shitty old work truck so my truck does not get smelly. Seriously the farm smells like shit.
