The World's Nuclear Stockpiles

MassMarketing 01-01-2015 01:51 PM

Wow, those are some scary numbers. I don't see the reason behind 7-9,000 nuclear weapons. It really doesn't matter how many we respond with if someone launch their collection at us.

Ensured destruction -- doomsday scenario ...

If that figure is accurate I'll eat my hat. I've got $5 on there being AT LEAST twice the number shown for each country.

seeandsee 01-01-2015 02:16 PM

end of world guarancy

Yeah that is the general idea.

I do not think this represents a completely accurate picture.

No quantification of total Tonnage of explosive power is given.

By some of the qualifying wording it does not appear to include warheads that are mothballed but ready for delivery.

I would think the Super Powers have Warheads in Europe as well as other places around the globe other then submarines and ocean going surface vessels also.

Honestly I would expect North America to be a prime target for a terror bombing of the nuclear variety. The US Asian/Pacific Rims more populous areas or Middle East would be next. It will not be a big bomb but it will not need to be.

Any attack with nuclear weapons would have to create extreme civilian casualties and property destruction so it will be a large population center.

The next nuclear attack on this planet will more then likely be a terror bombing rather then any countries act of war-making.

We're certainly a [the?] prime target. I'm figuring the ease of which nukes can be transported within Europe combined with the lack of accounting for all nuke materials there (which that OP graphic left out for some reason) + the sheer # of nukes overall there makes it the odds-on fav imo.

Because tactical warheads are counted too. For example, Russia has a lot for them prepared for the US allies in Europe. There is no need in heavy ICBM's to destroy NATO targets say in Poland, UK, Czech Republic or Germany :2 cents:

In fact it does. The USA have a bit more strategic warheads (about 5-10% or so), but Russia has incomparable more tactical ones, intended for the US aircraft carriers, NATO bases in the EU etc.

What is most scary is how many "close calls" we have had through out the years. I've read lots of stories about accidents here in the US but.... You know it happened just as much in Russia and other countries. Very scary indeed.

Pakistan is an issue too. Their government isn't fully in control of their own country; What happens if the nut cases there get a hand on their nukes?

The only issue is the USA. It's the only country that used nukes against other country. Yeah used them twice against the civilians. The USA is the only country which always acts like an ape with a granade:
