Georgia Police Chief Says He Accidentally Shot Wife
 
The Peachtree City, Georgia, police chief who says he accidentally shot his wife in their home early New Year's Day shot her once in their bedroom, Inspector Sherry Lang of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said today.

The incident has left the small-town police department "hurting," Peachtree City police spokesman Lt. Mark Brown said at a news conference this afternoon.

Brown called chief of police William McCollom "well-liked, well-loved."

"We are concerned for his wife and are concerned for the chief," Brown said.

There were no witnesses inside the home and the shooting took place in the couple's bedroom, the GBI's Lang said at the news conference.

McCollom earlier called 911 after 4 a.m. today and said he shot his wife in their home by accident, the GBI told ABC affiliate WSB in Atlanta.

His wife, Margaret McCollom, is in critical condition at Atlanta Medical Center, according to District Attorney Scott Ballard. He said that she is expected to undergo surgery today.

McCollom has been placed on administrative leave and an internal review is underway.

Out of all the accidental shootings I've read about this one takes the cake. It was on Reddit the other day..

His last words expressed his faith in "that good old Presbyterian doctrine of predestination".[64] Survived by his wife, Louisa Anna (McMahon) Vallandigham, and his son Charles Vallandigham, he was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.

A friend of mine died after her husband beat the fuck out of her face. Broken jaw, black eyes. Then used a single action .22 to shoot her three times. In fear for her life and her son, she made a dying declaration that it was "an accident" on the way to the hospital.

Skated? It doesn't take a detective to know that you can't accidentally shoot someone three times with a single action rifle. Must be some shitty police work.

Sounds like stupidity on the part of the cops, doctors and prosecutor.
3 shots is not an accident.

Cops don't need the cooperation of the victim to bring a case of domestic abuse these days.
So nothing the female said mattered to anyone who knew their job.

When I first saw this I figured the cop was dirty. But then his claim of killing while sleeping, I thought there might be some truth.
I know it sounds stupid, but I worked with a girl who did sleep walking. Her husband found her next to their pool, in deep snow "swimming."
My girlfriend doesn't sleep walk, she sleep eats. We go to bed with a clean kitchen and wake up to a mess. I've watched her. She'll eat with her eyes totally closed. I can't figure out how she finds the food in front of her. Twice, while living with her sister she set the kitchen on fire.
When she wakes in the morning she has no clue what happened overnight.
