Breaking: NYPD confirms two police officers have been shot in the Bronx

Update: Two NYPD officers have been shot in the Bronx, police say.

It's not clear what led to the shooting on East 184th Street and Tiebout Avenue in the Fordham section shortly after 10:30 p.m.

The officers were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and are expected to be OK, the NYPD said.

A law enforcement source said it appears one officer was shot in the back and the other shot in the arm.

The shooter or shooters are being sought.

The shootings happened just hours after the mayor and the police commissioner held a joint news conference to tout record low crime levels, with overall crime down 4 percent from last year. But shootings were up 13 percent, which NYPD officials admitted were "an area of concern."

So I guess this one is the mayor's fault also.

Not really. It's 13% above the historic low and murder rates are still at historic lows. It's not a good thing, but it's still way too early to panic. That said, if it goes up another 13%, then it will be pretty serious. NYC is still the safest big city in the country. Especially where I live in Manhattan. Most of the shootings are in the outer-boroughs and way uptown in Manhattan.

Yeah, just another reason for the NYPD to continue acting childish.

We don't have too many murders in Los Angeles, I know when my mom visited New York, she felt very safe
