atom 01-06-2015 01:48 PM

8 gb but what really makes the difference is the SSD

pornguy 01-06-2015 01:56 PM

32 on one and 12 on the other

rintintin34 01-06-2015 01:56 PM

Jim_Gunn 01-06-2015 02:04 PM

24 GB in my Sager laptop.

dyna mo 01-06-2015 02:30 PM

Isn't anything over 8 overkill? I thought I had read that.

rogueteens 01-06-2015 02:34 PM

Yeah, if you're not using your laptop for anything at all.

I have photoshop open all day, multiple programs for editing and converting videos, a couple different browsers with a ton of tabs open, etc.

I notice a huge difference.

right on! I edit all my content, just picked up an i7 laptop with 8 gigs for editing while traveling. had planned on stuffing plenty of ram in here but 8 runs ps, lr and pp without a hiccup so I'm not going to bother. Maybe when 4k video comes around.

ssd drives, different story.

...and you said you just got it. Big difference between what you notice on a brand new laptop and one you've had for a bit.

jscott 01-06-2015 04:13 PM

8gb up in here. Due for an upgrade in about a year I'm guessing. Things running smoothly :)

Miguel T 01-06-2015 04:43 PM

16GB :thumbsup

mineistaken 01-06-2015 04:44 PM

I am on desktop, not sure, but fairly certain that 4GB.
There is no need to have more than 8GB for "regular usage" as it won't use that much anyway.

Correct. Waste of money (unless for specific tasks).

2gb with a core duo 2.33 ghz, thankfully!

Eh, you say. Christmas eve, our laptop, i5 with 4gb motherboard burnt out, so, looking for a new one, hoping the i7 with 8 or 12gb, but until then, we're using this. It's horrible & slow surfing, & with xp still on the drive lol.

Got the ram, cpu (core i7 4790k) and motherboard (Asus Maximus VII Hero) on sale. It does make a difference with the extra 8gb of ram since I have a lot of shit open most of the time.

photoshop
windows live writer
dreamweaver
lots of metapad
lots more chrome windows
statsremote
more chrome windows
icq
skype
lots of other shit

I rarely hit 6gigs used.

Andreweb 01-07-2015 02:21 AM

8gb on the laptop and 16gb on the desktop

Lace 01-07-2015 07:26 AM

With about 10 windows open in Chrome along with Photoshop, I'm pegging out the 4GB in this laptop. I don't use it to work all too often though. Much rather work on my desktop with dual or triple monitors.

Theo 01-07-2015 09:07 AM

macbook with 16gb, 2.7ghz i7, 512gb ssd and 2gb nvidia that powers 4k external display

prolly eh. In comparison to my i7 desktop with 16 gigs and non-ssd, the i7 laptop performs impressively. I'm pretty stoked with my workflow on this, now if I could just get monster uploads while traveling sorted!

leg4 01-16-2015 12:15 AM

BlackCrayon 01-16-2015 07:16 AM

3gb...i'm using the same laptop since 2007. i mostly use my desktop for work.

tony286 01-16-2015 07:46 AM

I read an article about video editing and ram really didnt make a difference. The speed of the hard drive made a big difference. With ssd drives I can see,4 gig being more than enough for what most people do.

_Richard_ 01-16-2015 08:01 AM

6gb, OS brings to 4.8, cheap traveling one

so far so good really

Caldo 01-16-2015 08:08 AM

Best laptop I ever had. Even works with 4k external monitors at 60hz.
