American Sniper ---> Recommended Viewing

I just finished watching American Sniper. I was quite surprised that it is not the "ra rah AMERICA fuck yeah!" type movie that I was sort of expecting. It actually covers the darker side of the military experience to a certain degree. It also portrays Kyle as a human being with shortcomings and frailties who was also damaged from his experience in Iraq.

I am actually surprised that the movie did not cover the lies that Kyle allegedly told (killing car jackers, killing looters at Katrina, and punching Jessie Ventura). Because even if we assume Kyle really lied about doing those things, telling those lies fits within this movie as it shows that Kyle was ultimately human.

The movie was good but it targets a specific demography.
I like the action part, how sniper goes to work. Mixed with life outside the tours of duty.
The old man who directed it

is superb overall.

Good movie. I love the part when he killed the enemy sniper.

rolled more like a documentary than an actual movie. Not sure I liked that. His character was played pretty robotically, i like bradley cooper but this was really out of his range.

I'll wait for red box.

That's how Kyle was and Cooper did an incredible job "being" Kyle. Cooper put on 30 lbs of muscle and spent over 100 hours in dialect training to get Kyle's voice and mannerisms down. Kyle's friends and family said it was strikingly eerie watching the film as they thought they were seeing Kyle. Expect Cooper to get an Oscar nomination, although I'll be shocked if he wins.

Gotta see it. Eastwood is a great director (actor too).
