Al Sharpton Calls For Emergency Meeting To Address 'Appalling' All-White Oscar Nominees
Who is going?
"The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher you get, the whiter it gets," Sharpton quipped in a statement released later in the afternoon. Sharpton, a critic of the lack of diversity in Hollywood, also announced he was holding an "emergency meeting" next week to address the issue. "I have called an emergency meeting early next week in Hollywood with the task force to discuss possible action around the Academy Awards," he said. I guess the oscars didn't get the memo that sharpton needs to get paid.

Didn't Tyler Perry make few movies this year?
|
those were all the same movie. :-)

Glad to see Sharpton is spending his time doing important work like looking out for all the multimillionaire black actors out there. Always a defender of the downtrodden.

I was fully expecting the link to lead to The Onion. It looks like the sad reality we now live in is depriving The Onion of it's ability to satirize.
Maybe somebody should investigate the lack of proportional representation of white people in pro basketball and football. . |

Doesn't Sharpton owe the IRS millions in back taxes? Why don't they arrest him?

"The prestigious awards ceremony was widely criticized after its nominees for best actor, best actress, and best director were all white. In the past two decades this has happened only one other time..."
So 90% of the time, blacks are nominated in any of these three areas. This is twice in 20 years that a black hasn't been nominated, but Sharpton is "appalled". :1orglaugh:1orglaugh How many whites are nominated in the BET awards for best actor, actress or director over the last 20 years? I don't see any whites nominated this year :2 cents: |
So he is saying that actors should not be nominated because of the performance, but because of the color?
Another hypocritical racist scum. |

Can you say "Shakedown" ?
That's what Sharpton does. |

Maybe they shoudl segregate the oscars.
"Best colored directory" "Best colored leading female roll" That would work much better. |
|
This is the leftist verion of equality.Even if you are shit in X you must get Y because have darker skin color.
|
It's only the second time in two decades this has happened. He needs to realize that they can't just "throw a black actor" in there for the sake of appearances -- although I'm sure the academy has probably done that before.
|
I don't follow Hollywood gossip or keep up to date with "Oscar-worthy" movies, but can anyone name some non-white actors/directors who could/should have been nominated?

Does the guy realise that he's being racist as fuck? He's always pointing out race in siuations where it isn't an issue.

I'm in a high demographic area, by the beach. My next door neighbors are black, their kids and my kid hang out. Two houses down are Asians. Mexicans everywhere, oh and some Mexican-Americans too. The people who want you to think things aren't ok, are the people who make money diving people via pumped up controversy. The majority of America is a melting pot, except for the bible belt :2 cents: |

Granted where my family lives, you don't see much of anything but white, but that's away from any large city. Los Angeles is 50% hispanic |

certainly you don't want that. |

this is not the desired goal! :1orglaugh |
interesting quote that also relates to the topic:
Analyzing the "racial masquerade" that was involved in creation of a white "melting pot" culture through the stereotyping and imitation of black and other non-white cultures in the early 20th century, historian Michael Rogin has commented: "Repudiating 1920s nativism, these films [Rogin discusses The Jazz Singer, Old San Francisco (1927), Whoopee! (1930), King of Jazz (1930)] celebrate the melting pot. Unlike other racially stigmatized groups, white immigrants can put on and take off their mask of difference. But the freedom promised immigrants to make themselves over points to the vacancy, the violence, the deception, and the melancholy at the core of American self-fashioning". |

A melting pot is a metaphor for a society where many different types of people blend together as one. America is often called a melting pot. asshole! |

why I would be called an asshole for commenting on the etymology of a fucking term is so completely fucking bizarre.
is that a black thing? or just an uneducated thing? both prolly. |
nothing like an ignorant black to distort history so as to argue for racism and call someone an asshole for pointing out the racism of a term.
what an ignoramus. http://i.imgur.com/myMEr0F.jpg |
the melting pot myth was that, in theory, everyone was welcome, even the tired and the poor. Each would enrich American culture. Each would embrace the idea of a common identity. Each would adopt and eventually achieve the ?American dream? of freedom and prosperity.
The bad part of the melting pot was its rationalization of racism and intolerance. The melting pot metaphor writes off racism as a temporary transition period for minorities. As each culture is melted into the American culture, racism and prejudice fade away for that particular group. But history shows that immigrants and other cultural minorities have not been welcomed. And racism and intolerance are not temporary, but rather chronic, conditions of American society. The End of the Melting Pot | Results Accountability |
