The Phoenix Forum: Any craft beer drinkers coming?

Just wondering if any craft beer drinkers will be coming to The Phoenix Forum and if so, are any of you interested in participating in a bottle share one day/night?

With people coming in from around the world, this could be a pretty fun event.

Is it possible to play in the beerpong tourney with craft beer? Or is that just blasphemy???

LeRoy 01-27-2015 01:39 PM

I love beer! Havent made any yet but I'd love to try some Baddog :)

There are plenty of session ales out there that would work better than Bud Light or Coors whatever they are using.

You don't have to brew it to participate in a bottle share; you just need to bring a rare (and good) bottle of a craft brew.

I visited them the first time at the 2013 show and they do have an outstanding tap and bottle list for sure.

Those that want to participate in the bottle share please name the beer and vintage you will bring.

I will bring a Darkstar November by Bottle Logic Brewing since it is a delicious bourbon barrel aged brew that I doubt many here have tried.

goodgirl is leaning towards something from The Bruery - Black Tuesday sounds good but a Melange #3 would be good too

Hmmmm will have to do some research at SF Beer Week in a couple weeks.

My favorite of 2014 was Stone Enjoy By 10.31.14 IPA, and by all accounts it's still tasting great to people who are just cracking it now.

fappingJack 01-27-2015 03:08 PM

oohh sounds cool.

SF Beer Week should be fun but I have to disagree on the 10.31.14 - it was okay but hardly one of their best. I do not know why anyone would still be holding onto an IPA that long.

Is the bourbon taste prevalent or subtle?

Monkster 01-28-2015 02:15 PM

For those who may want to roam around the valley, last year I made a pledge with a friend to visit all of the Phoenix area breweries. Here's the list we came up with. Note some are national chains, but I tried to be inclusive...

Sleepy Dog
Litchfield Taproom
The Phoenix ale Brewery
Uncle Bears Brewhouse
Papago Brewing
Rock Bottom Brewery
Sun Up Brewing
BJ's Brewery
Arizona Wilderness Brewery
Oggi's
San Tan Brewery
The Perch
North Mountain Brewing Company
Gordon Biersh
Four Peaks Brewery
O.H.S.O.
Desert Eagle Brewery
Fate Brewing company
Old World Brewery
Huss Brewing

Enjoy!

I like to say it is subtle, but in a very good way. It is delicious.

Craft beer in the Phoenix, AZ area | Craft Beer Guy

AZ Wilderness is very nice. Good food and good beer; they have only gotten better over the past year.

http://craftbeerguy.com/wp-content/g...rness_7216.jpg

The Perch was fun but wasn't brewing last year so may have to pay a return visit this year.

http://craftbeerguy.com/wp-content/g...ewery_7249.jpg

Sun Up is a nice brewpub - solid brews and decent food

http://craftbeerguy.com/wp-content/g...ewing_4853.jpg

Gordon Biersch is across the street from Tempe Mission Palms; beer is ehh
BJ's a national chain with decent beer but would not go out of my way to find it.

Just about any of the AZ breweries will be found at World of Beer - Tempe if they brew enough to distribute . . . which means the odds of finding The Perch or Sun Up there are pretty slim.

I think if each participant brings one bomber (22oz/750ml) or two 12oz/500ml that should be sufficient. I don't really want to need a shovel to clear the room afterward. ;)

If I have an accurate count of participants I will bring taster glasses as I am pretty sure I have plenty.

Bump to find out who is in. I know Adam says he is bringing something from Australia, I will probably bring a local IPA or something along that lines; it is going to be too hot for a bunch of big ABV barrel aged brews.

If you are in, what are you bringing?

NETbilling 03-21-2015 12:14 AM

I'll bring the Coors Light. Cool?

You are looking for the beer pong group

mineistaken 03-21-2015 05:22 AM

So you bring one bottle and get which one in return? Just curious how does that work.

It is a bottle share - one brings a 22oz/750 ml bottle of a special beer (Mitch and his Coors Light would not be the right kind of "special"). I will bring some taster glasses and everyone can try 3 or 4 oz of a beer they have never tried or possibly ever heard of.

Usually around here people use these events to share their rare/aged big beers (10% ABV and up) because they are beers you usually will want help with anyway. Tempe is going to be too hot to overload on big beers so hoping to find some new pale ales, IPAs, pils, etc.

Like if someone is coming from a midwest state that has access to Three Floyd's, that would be excellent. However, you have a good idea. If anyone wants to do a bottle trade, let me know what you would like to receive and what you can bring and we can take it from there. Much easier than mailing it around the country/world.

Zombie Dust would be great, but I would be surprised if it is available. Alpha King, Gumball Head are great as well; I will try to decipher their website to see what might be convenient for you.

Would you find it at a local bottle shop or will you be in the Munster area?

Thanks by the way
