$8.3 Million profit per hour

$74 Billion in sales over three months with $18 Billion in profit.

No other company is doing better, not even close.

Apple had a pretty good quarter.

And by ?pretty good?, I mean it was the biggest quarter in history. And not just for Apple. For any company. Ever.

This page charts the past record holders. Until today, Russia?s Gazprom (the largest natural gas extractor in the world) held the record at $16.2 billion in a quarter.

Apple now holds the record: $18.04 billion in profit, fiscal Q1 of 2015.

Absolutely. Insane.

Think about this for a moment..... $18 billion in profit. And iphones only have ten percent of the market.

11.9% world wide, but in the US, Australia, UK and much of western Europe it's much higher.

Most of the worlds population live outside these developed areas so marketshare is yielded to cheaper alternatives.

In fact, I just read an article - not sure if it's the same one as listed above - that said iPhone sales greatly increased in Asia, mostly China.

Not that I'm banging on Apple (good for Apple), but M$ increased their sales of the Surface too.

I am curious to see how their new watch does. I am guessing this will be a fad. I bought my Smart Watch last year, wore it for a few months, then lost interest.

I thought "Big Oil" were the ones who made all the profit. :)

Anyway, that's pretty cool. But the U.S. federal govt. takes in 11 BILLION dollars a day in "profit" (they don't earn one penny of it).

They could buy and sell Apple in a day and a half. (and yet the U.S. govt. is still trillions in debt...they spend it faster than they take it by a long shot)

mineistaken 01-27-2015 09:44 PM

They certainly deserve it, brilliant brainwash marketing, they are geniuses.

Yea, it should be a wake up call for some but you'll just find them sleeping on the street for the next Apple product.

So US Military soldiers, that protect you, didn't earn it. The people who built and maintain this nation's highway systems, that you drive on, didn't earn it. Federal law enforcement, who catch kidnappers and fugitives, didn't earn it. :disgust

Most everything you use in every day life is made in China or has components built there.

If you want to start complaining about underpaid over worked Chinese workers then be prepared to pay much more for your consumption.

Fall out of Globalisation, you can't change it, I can't change it.

Much more than what Apple already charges for their products? That would be impossible.

Give it a rest. NO, the Federal Govt. didn't earn a penny. They TAKE it from taxpayers. :disgust

Sure there is waste and the rich pay more but you have to have taxes. I remind myself the roads I drive on everyday along with the public services I use.

johnnyloadproductions 01-29-2015 12:44 AM

This can't keep up forever, there's a threshold of how fast you can keep pushing new phones out.
I know a lot of older models get redistributed to other countries.

Obviously people are already paying too much when looking at the numbers.
But ok if the kids salary is raised, Tim Cook won't have the same cool stats to brag about at the next keynote.

There's a $50 difference in the street price of a Galaxy S5 and an iPhone in this country. Less of a difference in other countries. The latest modern smartphones are expensive, no doubt about that but Apple certainly aren't price gouging here.

It can and it will. The sheeple are so brainwashed that they would rather kill themselves than to be seen in public with an outdated Apple product.

But you don't see Samsung announcing record-breaking profits, could it be because they pay their workers better? Hmm? It's Foxconn (Apple's factories) who are infamous for having safety nets installed all around their buildings to prevent workers from jumping to certain death.

Here the price difference between iPhone 6 16GB and Samsung Galaxy S5 is $230.
The iPhone cost $760 compared to $530.
Generally I think most smartphones are overpriced.

We need govt. ...the govt. that was envisioned by our founding fathers.
NOT a govt. that takes in 11 BILLION dollars per day in revenue and still manages to be 17 TRILLION dollars in debt.

I've had the federal hwy discussion before with people (paid for by the tax on gasoline) and local roads are paid by local taxes and state taxes.

If you think that you are driving on roads that cost trillions and trillions of dollars or getting "public services" (which AGAIN...are paid by local taxes) that are worth trillions and trillions of dollars...then you are playing right into the hands of these lifetime/career bureaucrats who are destroying our nation.

Anyway...I'm just pointing out that for all the amazement of how much money Apple is making...the U.S. Federal govt. could buy and sell EVERY "big" company just with the revenue (taxes) they bring in every year. And of course our govt. spends FAR more than it brings in (thus the giant un-payable debt)

I'm just not one of those people who think we are driving on federal hwy's made of gold and that invading other countries is "defending my freedom" while I am searched at airports and my phone is tapped and emails read.

One of Samsung's selling point was the bigger screen, but Apple put a world of hurt on them when they launched the 6 Plus. Plus China's Xiaomi is eating into their sales.

dyna mo 01-29-2015 02:24 PM

interesting that it's all based primarily off iphone sales. i bet some apple execs are concerned, a hiccup can be a problem when a company has only 1 product.

Mac sales are healthy, Apple would still be posting pretty healthy profits based on it's other lines if the iPhone fell away.

MaDalton 01-29-2015 02:58 PM

i love Apple stock, i'm close to 100% profit on mine - should have bought more

and i love my OnePlus One which has about the same specs as the 6+ and cost 1/3 of that

iphone accounted for 70% of these profits. That's not the 3 legged product stool steve jobs envisioned.
