it's a tradition on this island that on New Years Eve everyone goes to church for 3 fucking hours (from 10 til 1 am). Think empty clubs with a sprinkling of heathens, and churches packed to the rafters with people standing outside cuz it's too packed to get inside, it's a sight that needs to be seen to be believed.
