SEO Gurus: How big a problem is duplicate content (text)
 

I have a few paysites with downlodable DVDs and im to damn lazy to make up different descriptions for the same movie on different sites. So how big a problem is it if I use the same movie description on 2 or 3 very different websites although in the same language. Will it hurt my SEO?

Also some rival websites has stolen bits of text from some of my most SEO friendly websites, and it doesnt seem to hurt me to bad. Is it really that big a problem?

Google hates duplicate content. Follow Johnny D's advise and use canonical

how many descriptions are we talking? at the very least i would run then through a spinner.

Spun text does not sound very good. If you want to take this path, you can use Word Ai (the most expensive, probably the best), or Spin Rewriter. After you spin the text, review it and edit, before adding it to the site. Canonical url settings are good too. You are telling Google.com and search engine websites that it is duplicate content, you are aware of that, and you are pointing them to the original sites.
